Hello
I found great flights to Turin and so with easy transfers by train I have a provisionally booked a nice B&B in Aosta town not far from the train station. The reason is I'm travelling with my wife who doesn't ski. The plan is for my wife will do some site seeing and meet me up the mountain later. How tricky is it to get up and down to the slopes for some sking. It looks possible but maybe you will tell me differently. or

There's a gondola on the edge of town (wasn't that a Springsteen song?) - next to the station - that takes you straight up to Pila.

That's probably walkable from your hotel and you can nip up to ski and down for lunch, or your good lady can hop on it and head up the mountain for some scenery. Job done.

Heard good things about the ski area; usually quiet - apart from Italian public holidays and half-term I think - but popular with school trips.

Pila has about 70kms of slopes, a couple of decent blacks, a dozen or so "Italian reds" and the rest blues. Ok for cruising but you will ski it out in 3 days. The Aosta lift pass gives you 2 days in the other Aosta resorts, most reachable by bus. Try courmayeur and La Thuile

Easily walkable from the hotel to the gondola. I love Pila, the slopes are maintained so well and there is a good variety for all ranges. We stayed in Aosta last time and didn't find it too much of a hassle to walk to the gondola. It's a beautiful town.

Aosta is such a beautiful and interesting place, so there's lots for non skiers to do. We found the trudge from hotel to gondola , with the last bit along a busy main road, a bit of a chore and definitely not to be done in ski boots (think we hired storage at the top of the gondola). If your hotel is close to the gondola, the trip up is pretty quick and queues not too bad even in half term.
