Hi,

Anyone try the Swiss Magic Pass?
https://www.magicpass.ch/en/

Looks like a good deal, but I don't know many of the resorts.

Any thoughts?

Chris

It's new this season, a full price season pass for Crans Montana alone is CHF 800 and a 6 day pass is CHF 349 so it's a very good deal. The resorts covered are scattered across 3 Cantons and some of them are very small, but it would be worth it for access to the resorts in Valais alone. I think the offer ends at the end of the month, after which the price will be CHF 1299.

I also think that it reinforces the attraction of staying down in the valley and making excursions to the various resorts (other than the 4 Valleys, which the pass doesn't cover). Somewhere like Saillon, Martigny, Sion or Sierre will probably offer a wider and cheaper range of accomodation options, including thermal resorts like the Bains de Saillon (https://www.bainsdesaillon.ch/en/) or somewhere in a town itself.

This could also appeal to mixed groups, where not everyone is a keen skier, allowing non-ski partners to do cultural excursions to places like the Fondation Giannada (http://www.gianadda.ch/) in Martigny, Chateau Chillion etc.). It also means that if the weather is terrible, you can spend the day doing the Thermal Wellness thing, or going out somewhere interesting.

If you can use a Swiss airline flight into Sion, being based in the valley also means you'd be only 30-40 minutes from the airport.

Hi, I have two Magic Passes for the 2017-18 season for sale (valid from 30 November 2017 until 30 April 2018). We are expecting our first child in APril so skiing is probablt not the greatest idea, at least not for my wife :-) We have received written confirmation from the Magic Pass team that the passes may be assigned anew, subject to payment of an adminstrative fee of 40CHF. Selling price: 300 EUR per skipass, i.e. 600 EUR in total. We will pay for the administrative fees.
For those that are not familiar with the skiing areas (25 in total), the following are very much worth the while: Crans-Montana, Villars, Leysin, but also Val d'Anniviers (valley composed of 5 stations: Vercorin, Grimentz, Saint-Luc, CHandolin, Zinal. Fairly unknown but a hidden gem with beautifully long slopes and reasonable prices for accomodation). Interest, please send an e-mail to nijs.karel@gmail.com. Kind regards, Karel
