Im thinking of heading to Cervinia early January possibly staying at the Hotel Lyskamm, if anyone as ever stayed there your input would be appreciated. Also whats the prices for food and drink (beer) like?

Not stayed at that hotel, but was in cervinia about 4yrs ago. From memory i dont think drink prices were too steep. I think it was about 3.5 to 4 euros for a .4l beer. There is, or was, a place up the main st that did happy hour prices. Some good food to be had in the various eateries. Beware the gondola to zermatt. If you miss the last one back you will need a mortgage for a taxi or hotel room in Zermatt. Lifts can be closed if it gets windy. Its all glacier skiing so no tree cover. Overall though i enjoyed it. I seem to recall that main st is pedestrian so if your hotel is at the top you might be dragging luggage up the hill.
Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.

Hi To reiterate what DougR said - only go over to Zermatt if it's a fine day and make a note of the time the lifts back shut as it is probably earlier than you would expect.
I only just got back on one occasion via the button lift on the glacier with it stopping and starting in the biting wind. On another occasion some members of our group spent 600 euros on a 4/5 hour taxi ride to get back!
