World’s Best Long Jumpers & Triple Jumpers in Tignes

Iainm posted Aug-2017

Earlier this month the 'Saut de Géants' athletics meeting in Tignes saw some of the best athletes in the world leap at 3032m altitude in front of a crowd of 3000 people.

Victory in the long jump went to South African Luvo Manyonga, who won the recent World Championships in London, and in the triple jump to American Will Claye, who beat his compatriot Christian Taylor into second place.

Luvo Manyonga's winning jump was 8.46m - 2cm short of his winning jump at the World Championships. The home crowd cheered Frenchman, Kafétien Gomis, to 2nd place in the long jump with a season best of 8.22m.

In the Triple Jump Will Claye took revenge on Christian Taylor, after he missed gold by 5cm at the Worlds, with the best jump of the day at 17.42m.

Gomis was impressed with the venue: "I've seen some beautiful Olympic stadiums in my career but never an open-air stadium like Tignes - for me it is the most beautiful stadium in the world!"

Tignes had hoped that new world records would be set at the event, but high winds made conditions difficult. This was the first year though and with comments such as Gomis', we're sure they'll have no problem tempting the athletes back for another attempt.

Triple Jump Results:
1. Will Claye (USA) – 17.42m
2. Christian Taylor (USA) – 16.99m
3. Alexis Copello (AZE) – 16.95m

Long Jump Results:
1. Luvo Manyonga (RSA) – 8.46m
2. Kafetien Gomis (FRA) – 8.22m
3. Emiliano Lasa (URU) – 8.18m
