So, 2 years on from our initial skim of ski website security, here's the latest.

We're looking at the security and integrity of the connection between you (your browser) and the ski websites you may like to visit.

Why does it matter? Quick Reminder...

If your connection to a website is not secure, then anything you send to that website - your name, address, password, credit card number, bank account details - can be sniffed (intercepted), copied, tampered with and used by anyone who picks them up.

Remember - if your browser does not say Secure (Chrome) or show a small padlock in the address bar (pretty much all browsers including IE and Firefox), then your connection to that website is NOT secure.

And even if a website is using https (the secure protocol), they need to keep their server updated in order to stay ahead of any discovered weaknesses (vulnerabilities).

As before, we're using the comprehensive and well-respected test provided by SSL Labs; which you can access (and test any site you use) here :- https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/. They grade websites from A+ (the best - very secure) down to F (not secure at all).

2017

Hardly a week goes by without web security (or a breach thereof) being in the news, so you'd think this was a pretty high priority for most webmasters.

There are good improvements from most (of the ski sites we looked at), although the Ski Club have slipped back to a C and some of our favourites still don't seem to have their act together...
