Went up to Avoriaz last Thursday and was pleasantly surprised. The snow was good, if a little icy in patches and even though it was bloody cold, it was nice and sunny. There wasn't too many people either, considering...Although Morzine and Les Gets managed to open last week, they will be closing slopes again as temperatures rise and the February holiday makers arrive.

Sharon is it true that Morzine and Les Gets will be closing agagin for Half Term, I hope not as we have some kids lessons booked for Les Gets, surely if they have had some snow they must be working hard to keep what they have got.

Is there more snow forecast for next week ? Have you heard any gogod reports?

They are definitely doing everything they can with the snow cannons.....For a good weather report for this area, check out the Chamonix weather:
http://www.chamonix.com/meteocham/MetPreE.php They usually have roughly the same weather as us. No snow expected I am afraid, but don't despair, there is loads you can do with the kids. How old are they and who have you booked lessons with? They make take the kids to Avoriaz if necessary.

I?ve just come back from a 2 week stay in Les Gets. Sadly we weren?t able to ski there at all as the ski area only re-opened just before we left. However, all was not lost as free busses were laid on to transport us to the Ardent cable car up to Avoriaz. We had lessons booked with BASS (excellent as ever) and they re-located to Avoriaz.

To ensure we were there on time we booked a mini bus to drop us off & collect us for the first week with Alp-Line (also excellent as ever) which made life much easier ? especially with 3 children! The skiing in Avoriaz was fine ? more challenging than usual due to there being less snow and more people. However, this improved greatly following the snow last week. We used the free bus for our second week ? which was sometimes fine and sometimes a total nightmare with people surging and pushing to get on it. There were sometimes long queues in the mornings to buy lift passes at the Ardent cable car ? 45 minutes one day. We started to buy them at the end of the day for the following day to save time.

I look at various weather forecasts, including www.metcheck.com & no snow is indicated for the next week, although temperatures are set to fall towards next weekend. I went to Les Gets feeling very despondent about the snow situation, but had a far better holiday than expected. Go with an open mind & if more snow doesn?t come be prepared for busses & queues ? but enjoy it!!
The plan is.... there's no plan!

What's all this about Les Gets closing more slopes next week. I don't like the sound of that much!

It seems suprsising as surely there is enough snow to last a few days of higher temperatures?

Come on everyone lets do the snow dance again!
