Hi

I am heading to italy in two weeks for a week. But going skiing again in march to austria (niederau). Considering going to N for two weeks. Crystal charge a fortune for flights and transfer. So started looking at flights to munich from dublin direct. This costs 209 return. Anyone any advice via the public transport system how to get to niederau from munich, including the costs? Hiring a car is out. I dont want the hassle of driving in snow and on the other side of the road in unknown places.

Thanks i

Hi IJ, I just returned from Niederau, where I visit every January and most years in March/April.

I use both train and hire car. Of late, I have taken to hiring a car, and buying a Kitzbuhel All Star ski pass.

Using public transport the best route is train and bus/taxi.

For the train element look at the DBB site:
https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml

If you are arriving at terminal 1, head for terminal 2, and the station is between the two terminals. You can buy your ticket at a machine or in a queue.

From Munich airport, the destination is Wörgl.

The advantage of a queue is that you get a printed itinerary, arrival platform number and time, departure platform and time.

On the DBB site you will see a choice of departure times, number of stops, and overall travel time. All trains from Munich flughaven stop at Munich Ost. You then change. From then, depending on your time, there are three possible changes.

a) direct to Wörgl. Total 1 stop.
b) change at Rosenheim or Kufstein, then on to Wörgl. Total 2 stops.
c) change at both Rosenheim and Kufstein, then on to Wörgl. Total 3 stops.

Travel time can be under two hours to 2h 40m.

At Wörgl, you could catch the postbus, but unless you are staying in the centre, or at the Harfenwirt, you might get a taxi. direct to door.

Train fare is €30 each way.

Bus about €7/8, Taxi was €15 2 years ago.

I guess there is much more info I can offer, but if you have a go at the DBB site and let me know if there is further info you require.

Regards, Dave

Hi

Just remembered that friends have also used the Deutsche Postbus, stop 22 in Munich airport, bus no 83. Straight to Wörgl with a couple of stops on the way. It was really cheap from what I can remember and takes a similar time to the train. Another friend also used a shared private taxi transfer, think it was 90€ return but not bad between a few of you. Takes you right to the door in Niederau so not much diff from the train + taxi/bus prices

Hi,
I've used the Post Bus (our equivalent of the National Express) from Munich to Worgl and last time I used it last August, from memory I think it was 14euros return. It's a direct bus from Munich to Worgl and takes about 2 hours. You'll then need to get a taxi or the local bus up to Niederau. There's always plenty of taxis outside the station, and a taxi from Worgl to Niederau is anything between 12-20euros. I used the train at New Year, as the times were more convenient than the bus and it was 36euros from Munich to Worgl. You'll need to change in Munich Ost, and then it's direct from there to Worgl. As Ski Girl said, I used the shared taxi when I visited last week - this was by far the most expensive option, but as I wasn't landing in Munich until late at night, I didn't want to risk missing the last train, and being stuck in Munich, and it was straight to the door, and not much more expensive when you factored in the cost of a taxi from Worgl up to the village! If you need some help/info on booking the transfer, or cheap accommodation in Niederau, I'm more than happy to help!

Thanks at the moment there could be 5, but def 3, 2 others from England might join us. I'm def looking a single room. After a week in Italy sharing and suffering from sleep deprivation due to 100 shades of snoring, i am not sharing again. Enjoy Italy.
