Hi All

I'm after buying some new goggles and wanted any thoughts or experiences:

I currently have a set of Bolle Nova goggles with Vermillion Gun Modulator lenses, I also have an insert that fits into them instead of wearing them over glasses (can't wear contacts, phobia of sticking things in my eye). These have served me well for a few years and the modulator seems to work pretty well - I also have a very cheap pair of Cebes in bright yellow for if the light totally deserts me - bought as a result of just such an occurrence in Pas de la Casa many years ago.

Fancy a change and last season tried a set of Anon Migs (with the detachable face mask bit). Didn't get on with these and returned them anyway as the strap kept pinging off due to a fault

I've been looking at Oakley Flight Decks with Prizm Torch Iridium lenses. Fancied a change to the spherical style. All of my sunglasses (prescription) are Oakley so I'm a big fan of their work and accept that price and value are different things. Wanted to know what people's experience was:

General quality?
Are Prizm that much better than standard?
Is Torch Iridium the right colour for most days (I'm used to a red/pink tinge from my Bolles)?

Or can anyone recommend another vendor or style I should try?

I'm a helmet wearer, need the insert to fit (appreciate this will be trial and error), have only set foot in a park once in my life (wrong turn).

Any and all ideas greatly received

Andy

We spent ages in a specialist winter sports shop in London 3 years ago choosing new goggles and helmets.

We tried quite a few combinations of styles and manufacturers. The best fit, by far, was a Smith Optics Vantage helmet and Smith Optics I/O googles. The goggles have been excellent and they have swap out lenses although I have to say that in flat white conditions I'm a grumpy skier whatever lens I'm looking through! No problems with any fogging and really comfortable all day long. The helmet has also been brilliant. Really lightweight with the added advantage that it's bright green and I can therefore be seen by daughter no 2 when she's blasted off down the slope ahead of the rest of us....

Meant to say that I have a superb pair of Oakley sunglasses for bright days. I'll see if I can hunt down the spec (they weren't cheap!)

Cheers BB

My lid is a Smith Variant Brim so should probably consider their goggles too!

My sunglasses are Oakley Flak Jackets with Fire Iridium prescription lenses. Wear them all the time for driving, golf, mountain biking and general hanging round in ski resorts but find goggles better with lid on

I've had Oakley air brakes for a few years now and got to say they are amazing. All my sunglasses are Oakley and I am a little biased. I do like to change stuff every season and every time I am drawn toward new goggles I try and try but nothing lives up to the airbrakes. Super fast lens change also. I have the fire iridium lens, plus a very dark black lens for super sunny days but I find the iridium does the job well. Last season I bought a prism rose lens and I have the say that on flat light days I can see every contour. My fire lens is getting a little scratched up but I'm loath to change the goggles so will probably just buy a new lens. I've changed my helmet a couple of times and they've fitted every one. Couldn't recommend the highly enough. They do come with a price tag but if you shop around there are some deals to get. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ade

Got the Flight Decks at the weekend - seem really good and my insert seems to fit so should be good for my trip in January

I have been an Oakley wearer for the last 10 years but decided to try something different and got myself a pair of Smith I/O 7's with chromapop lenses in the cyber Monday sales. I have to say they are freaking amazing. I am in love and don't regret it. I am on the mountain now and have had a blue bird day and a snowy day so I have been able to try out both lenses. All I can say is BEST GOGGLES EVER!!!

Now they look cool - just had a look!

Mind me asking what you paid? - I can always return the Oakleys....
