I am making a brief trip to Zermatt with my family (kids 7 & 9) to ski the last 3 days of April. The long range snow forecast looks like a lot of snow in the next 10 days, which is fantastic, but my family will be skiing mostly on the groomed runs. I have poured over the trail map and read many reviews and we are very excited. Looking for any predictions of on-mountain conditions (general weather, temp and snow cover), as well as recommendations for runs and places to stop for lunch. I have read that the runs (I am an American so I am not used to calling them pistes) on the Cervina side are really nice, and am looking forward to having lunch in Italy. I believe that the Sunegga and Gornerat areas will be closed by then. Thanks for your advice.

If you can get your relatives to take you to Geneva airport station to start your journey to Zermatt you could get a Swiss Transfer Ticket https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/holidays--short-breaks-in-switzerland/swisstravelsystem/swiss-transfer.html and if you get a free Swiss Family Card the kids will travel free http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/tickets-for-guests-from-abroad/swiss-family-card.html
One of the best places to stop for lunch on the Italian side is Chalet Etoile http://www.chaletetoile.it/

Swing Beep. Thanks for the info. Yes getting a Swiss transfer ticket seems like the best deal for the family and was our plan, and we already have reservations at chalet etoile so it seems like I am doing things right so far. Keep the advice coming. I will certainly hit up the staff at the Alpenhof where we are staying for their advice, but the more info we have before we go the better. Thanks again for the advice.

Hi Zgcracker - from my experience last April I think you're right, the Italian side has more interesting places to eat high up, from what we found on the Swiss side it was mostly big canteens - though a good selection of places to eat in Furi as you get the gondala up.
