Is ski in and out important? Basically you need somewhere with majority of skiing above 2000m. If you are really against last lift down then it somewhat narrows your options to the higher purpose built resorts.

Ranchero makes a good point, although Easter this year is very early, so if you ski at Easter this year, there may be snow around at lower levels which would enable you to ski back to resort. Agasalwamann - it would be good if you could give some idea as to the sort of skiing you like (blue, red, black, on piste, off piste, lots of trees etc) and what other things are important in the holiday - after-ski, transfer duration, whether you want to use a tour operator or go DIY

Almost anywhere in the three valleys,, the bus links & gondolas are great if no snow at lower levels

France, early April.....conditions could open up a lot of resorts to you, but to be safe you want to go high for skiing.
3 valleys is the best option with lots of variety of places to stay such as expensive Courchevel, popular Meribel, high up Val Thorens or lower down places with access up such as Le Praz, St Martin de Belville or even Les Menuires all offering better value.

Also consider Tignes/Val d'Isere, Flaine/Avoriaz, Les 2 Alpes and even Alpe d'Huez

Snow and conditions are currently excellent across most of the Alps and France in particular but that could change with a couple of warm weeks so choose carefully!

Didn't I do a review last year on my first trip?

Have to say conditions this year were far better. I thought they were good last year, but it was cold all week and after first day and a half in fog and lo vis, the temp dropped and the snow fell. We had snow for 3 days out of 6 and knee deep powder on one day. Snow down to the valley floor as well so saw the town in all white instead of green and brown as last year.

Quick summary:

Solden has quickly become a real favourite with me, and the 2 guys I went with were suitably impressed, one of them putting it in his top 3 and he has skied a lot of places in his time. Prices in town and up the mountain are sensible, lift system is on the whole fast and efficient with only the odd drag and t bar on the glaciers, and a couple of old slow 2 man chairs. Lovely spread out area, long runs, nothing particularly easy so there aren't many numpties around, great feeling of travelling around to move around the area. Superb snow especially with 3 peaks at 3000m.

I'll do a more detailed review when I get a chance later on.

Excellent; I like Solden very much - the sense of travel across a wide area is fantastic. Hope to return soon.
