Unfortunatly the weather report isn't looking too great for Pamporovo, which is annoying as I'm also off there on 3 Feb.

Conditions at the lower levels are pretty bad for anything at the moment, but the higher, sheltered, slopes are hanging in there, albeit getting a bit icy and cut up. Tuition should be moved up the slopes so you should be ok. Indeed, green runs are at altitude in Pamporovo so beginners should be happy, anybody wanting more demanding runs might be dissapointed.

There's not been any new snow since 3 January and it doesn't look like there will be any before you go. Fog is supposed to close in on 22nd so hopefully that signals a change in the weather and a healthy dump is on its way.

Keep your fingers crossed and pack plenty of alternative things to do!

Would appreciate an update on the conditions when you get back, hopefully in one piece and having had loads of piste time.

Hi I used to go skiin 2x every year from 1980 until 2004. It is highly unlikely that you will get any skiing in before 28th. However you may want to see how the snow is in Chepelre which is only 10 km from Pamporove and a much more friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Aslo all the prices are about 1/3rd of Pamporovo

Hope you enjoy

I've just had my first week's skiing. 28th Jan to 2nd Feb. Snow reports for Pamporovo were disappointing before we set out but luckily there was snow the day before we arrived and a couple of flurries since so there were no problems at all. The Ski School is well organised and the Instructors are great. We stayed at the Panorama Hotel which is a bit out of town and you are rather dependent on the minibuses provided. If I went again I would choose a hotel more in the middle of town where the nightlife is. The Spa Centre at the Panorama had only just opened. If you want a Jacuzzi, check the ambient temperature in the room. When we tried it, it all seemed a bit too chilly to really relax in. The hotel as a whole isn't exactly luxurious but does provide everything you need and is good value at the price we paid. We went with Balkan Holidays and their rep was very helpful. We enjoyed the Bulgarian Folk Feast - good food, wine and music and no extras to be paid for.

I returned from Pamporovo on the 3rd Feb after a week which luckily had enough snow to ski by - bit icy though in parts. Heard it has had some good snow since. Stayed at the Murgavets-pretty good, comfortable. good staff. Enjoyed it so much have booked to go back on 10th March, this time at the Pamporovo Hotel, so now am worrying about the level of snow for that week. Considering perhaps one-to-one ski tuition by the Ski School for quicker progress- am currently on red runs, but I ended up with a suspected broken nose on the last day! Has anyone had experience of one-to-one,cost etc.?
