After skiing in New Zealand and then working in La Plagne for the season last season, the question is where to ski this season when we will only get 10 days maximum and this could possibly be our last trip before we start a family, so it's got to have the wow factor!!

So Canada it is then! but where in Canada the obvious choice would be Whistler but I wanted to see what other peoples options are on where the best place to head is.

Are dated are pretty fixed due to the wife back working for the NHS, so we are looking a the end of January.

We are looking for amazing skiing loads of it with a days Heli skiing definitely on the cards.

Any advise would greatly be appreciated.

Whistler has the biggest ski area in Canada, but how about a two-centre trip? I'd heartily recommend Fernie for its lift accessed off-piste bowls and steep pistes with a few days at somewhere like Kicking Horse!

Matt

Ive not actually skied in Canada but have visited Banff in the summer and we loved it! (we took a train from Toronto to Jasper before bussing down to Lake Lou, on to Banff and then the Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver and on to Victoria)

Basically Banff is one long street with all the accommodation, bars and restaurants within a block or so of the main drag - I'd def recommend "The Keg" for a great steak

As for the NHL game - the Saddledome is one of the iconic building of the league so that should be great - its recovered now from the terrible floods they had a while ago. Calgary themselves will be rebuilding this season - who are they playing for t he game you hope to see?

When in Banff you need to go to Earls Restaurant at the top end of the high street. It's on the first floor with fantastic views of the mountain.
It will definitely be cold that time of year. Lake Louise has piste and powder available next to each other. The Larch area is lovely and quiet with the Temple Lodge offering good food and service.
You are definitely making me jealous!!
I was told "if you lean, you fall". I've tried and I did.

Don't miss the chance to ski Blackcomb Glacier, it's a really good run.
Watch out for the infamous Whistler white-out weather, and head for tree-lined areas.
Take good quality clothing, it can be seriously cold.

I did a 10 day trip from Calgary, drove down to Fernie, then up to Kimberley, Panorama, Kicking Horse, Lake Louise, Marmot Basin, Banff and Nakiska! They were ALL great but marginally I actually liked Kimberley the most like a perfectly formed private ski area. Panorama has a low cost (ish) heli skiing operation on site. The most spectacular part of the trip was the 100 mile plus drive from Lake Louise up to Jasper through the Icefields Parkway which is some of the most amazing scenery on earth. Nakiska was the Olympic base when Eddie the Eagle was jumping and also the film Inception was filmed nearby so had to pay homage to both. We did take our kids so you could always leave it until after you had a family. Whistler is OK but not much character as the resorts above, though more towards la Plagne scale.
