London Ski Show To Be A Day Shorter This Autumn

J2SkiNews posted May-2014

The London ski show will be a day shorter this winter say the organisers, cut from five to four days.

The new format will include two late night openings, "…where you can enjoy an exciting après ski atmosphere with live entertainment," said a statement from The Daily Telegraph who currently run shows in London and Manchester.

The Manchester show takes place first from 24th-26th October and the shortened London show will take place from 30th October to 2nd November afterwards.

Last year The Daily Telegraph's shows operator scheduled their Manchester show that its dates clashed with the long running Birmingham Ski show after the new operator of Birmingham announced an all new invigorated show format.

Eventually the new Birmingham show organiser had to throw in the towel and the show did not happen for the first time in 20 years. There have subsequently been rumours of a new party organising a new show this autumn, but so far there's nothing officially announced and the NEC's site is not showing any snow event in October or November.

Similarly the Scottish snowsports show website is currently dead
(www.scotlandsskishow.co.uk) so it's not known if this will return to the SECC in Glasgow this autumn.

Exhibitions in many industry sectors a having a pretty hard time at the moment. Exhibitors are counting the pennies and wondering whether staging a week long "event" is the most effective use of their funds.

I almost feel that the show needs to be rethought. Perhaps have a show for holidays, travel companies etc. 6-8 weeks earlier when people are actually trying to decide where to go and get it booked, then have a gear only show at the usual dates.

Agree with most of the comments, same old same old .... not a lot of offers on equipment or deals on holidays and the whole show has been shrinking for a number of tears ... Which is a real shame.
What are the more Northern shows like ???

I had issues with the Scottish Ski Show 2 years back, but that was only with the treatment of our guide dog trainee.

I have made efforts to get to the last two London ski shows ~ in both cases, I had the need to meet up with lawyers in London, and in both cases, the meetings were postponed ~ they would have paid my travel/accommodation costs!

My main purpose would be to meet up with old and new friends. At one show, I met a friend of Pavel, at another, a couple of main exhibitors who I used to ski with. Also, to meet up with Austrian friends.

I don't see that a change in number of days has an impact on the visitor.

I won a free ticket to the Manchester one last year from the j2 Facebook page. It never turned up.
