Admin posted Apr-2014

As a timely reminder that Spring brings new avalanche risk - as warm weather sends melt water into the base of the snow pack - four off-piste skiers perished in an avalanche on Monday.

Rescue teams on Wednesday morning found and brought home the dead bodies of all four of the skiers who went missing in Norway's Sunndalsfjella mountains on Monday afternoon.

The first three bodies were found quickly after improving weather conditions allowed the search teams to launch their Sea King rescue helicopter, which tracked the signals given out by the skiers' rescue beacon.

The search parties also used a special avalanche dog to sniff out the bodies.

The four men, all experienced skiers in their 20s and 30s, split off from the other two members of their party on Monday morning, agreeing to meet at a farmhouse in the afternoon.

The surviving two members contacted the emergency services when they did not arrive.

If you're enjoying the Spring Skiing in Europe at the moment; do take care if thinking of leaving the piste.
