Not seen this clip before but would be interested to hear the views of people who understand avalanches and why this went on for so long past the houses - i am probably wrong but it appeared not to be that steep to sustain its momentum that far past the house.

It's a wet slide. Hence it is very slippy (keeping things simple here), and will slide on low angles. Hence in hot conditions avalanches will release spontaneously on slopes <30degrees, particularly if the bed surface is smooth (wet grass, rock slab etc)
