An avalanche on Christmas Day in Grandvalira killed a 27-year-old woman who was caught whilst snowboarding. She was off-piste and located after 10 minutes, but could not be resuscitated.
This morning (December 26th) in La Plagne, an avalanche buried an 18-year-old who remains in hospital in serious condition. He is reported to have been off-piste in the area of Aime la Plagne, when he was caught and buried for a period before being dug out by rescuers.
And in Italy, a 24-year-old French skier - from Annecy - died in a Turin hospital after having been recovered from an avalanche in Bardonecchia.
Elsewhere, a "young skier" is reported to have been caught but escaped from an on-piste avalanche in Marilleva.
Avalanche Risk across The Alps is generally at Level 3 (Considerable), but 4 (High) in many places.
Considerable avalanche risk will continue in many areas for the next week at least - please stay safe!
