Views please on ease of access to the wider ski area of the grande massif and the Flaine bowl from these three villages.

This would be a mid-march hol with MrsOA who does not ski. Hence speed of getting to the skiing and back is important to me as I normally get out and ski and then we meet up late morning somewhere.

Hi Andy

I stayed in Samoens in January.

From Samoens it's a gondola up to the slopes every morning then at least one lift to give you access to morillon, les carroz and flaine.

Samoens is a nice little town with a good selection of bars shops and restaurants also a weekly market it's well served by the ski bus so makes morillon accessible without skiing.

Hope that helps

Samoens would be my bet.... More to do in village for non skiers...
Quick 7 min lift to 1600m. You could always meet up there at lunch as well. If you have a car you can drive to 1600.
Links to Flaine morillon and les carroz.
Easy access 1 hour from geneva.

Hi Andy,
We probably spoke in Tignes last year about Morillon. We stayed in Les esserts (Morillon resort) three years running. We used to ski to Flaine in 45minutes, about the time it takes to drive there! I think you end up taking 3 or 4 lifts, and there are a number of link 'paths' rather than long pistes, but nothing worse than a blue all the way. We just loved Les Carroz side as we had a coupl of pistes to ourselves, and never queued at Easter. he tree lined pistes down to Morillon and Les Carroz are beautiful.
Hope this helps

I think Les Carroz would get my vote for skiing convenience, but Samoens for the non-skier.

Both Samoens and Morillon have got some lovely runs when the snow's good, but Flaine's a little easier from Les Carroz and you've got some fun slopes above Les Carroz in any case if you're aiming to be "there and back" within the morning.

Tough choice; you'll probably be fine in any of them!

If you are staying in Morillon village, there is a bubble up to the skiing resort at Les esserts, from there two 4 person chairs. Must admit this was a few years ago, but the cable car mentioned for samoens 1600m is a high capacity one and cuts the corner if you were skiing over to Flaine. There's a six pack from Les Carroz village - but then it needs it as Les Carroz is quite a bit larger and livelier than Morillon Les Esserts with its one bar/couple of restaurants. I think staying in one of the small resorts and skiing overto flaine is the best of both worlds you have the tree lined pistes lower down and possibilities to tour the various valleys, and then go to flaine for all the wider longer and more intense skiing.
