Epic Pass @ Tahoe

Earlier this year (end feb/start march) when we were skiing in the Lake Tahoe area for the first time, they were selling season passes for the next season (13-14) already, & you could then use it to ski the rest of the current season for free... Can anyone advise if this is something they do every year, & if so, what date do they begin this offer on? We're hoping if we plan carefully, we can collect one from Heavenly & use it when we're there in March '14 then use it to ski elsewhere in USA in 14-15, because if we already have the pass sorted, we might then be able to afford Colorado or somewhere more expensive than Tahoe :D Any advice gratefully received :)

Noticed the same thing a few years ago March in Tahoe and was wondering the same, now noticed it is valid in 3 European Resorts as well, look forward to seeing if you get any answers RE what date they start selling on?
