Thinking of arranging private lessons for Mrs Smartski and two pre-teen daughters (I know life's gonna be great for a few years  )

But are children taught with different techniques to adults and so would all sharing one lesson be difficult?

(Other than age/height they are all about the same standard, easy blues no problem, steeper blues without much confidence.)

Thoughts would be gratefully received.

PS We're going to La Plagne Centre, so any recommendations/avoids for Ski-schools would be handy too.

Thanks.

Kids typically learn better with other kids. Mums tend to worry more about kids than themselves. Maybe kids in group ski lessons and mum in a private lesson or two?
A lot of instructors prefer not to teach family lessons, partly because of the diff methods of teaching involved and partly because of the parent care factor which interferes with learning.

Good points, not thought about it from that perspective.

Combined lessons are hard to come by, i should know because i too have looked. The only way you will achieve this is to go private but it will cost a fortune for the same number of hours ski school will offer for normal group lessons.

You are lucky that you have two kids, they will be a friend for each other and no doubt inspire each other too. And i am sure the Mrs would prefer to be with adults then a class of kids.

As for La Plagne, we used Oxygene and they were pretty good. Google them.

Thanks Snapzzz. Mrs doesn't want a group lesson (memories from experience years ago), that's part of the problem.

Umm the two kids inspire each other? We'll see. In reality the youngest will will probably outsmart and out run the oldest, tackle the harder runs with more confidence just to 'prove herself' result = hissyfit from the other!

I saw Oxygene's ad, I will take a closer look.

Whenever I saw your girls together Smartski - I was struck by how well they seemed to be getting on, always chatting - and confident around the other guests too.

Is it that you, as parent, just get all the "problems" thrown at you and when you are not around they are fine. I suggest this as that is my experience - the Lout gets amazing compliments from others - to the extent that MrsOA and I are convinced people must be talking about someone else!

thanks OA. I'm sure you're right, too many parents (me especially) focus too much on the negative, where others can see the pluses.

I was being a bit harsh, they do support each other really well. Just with a bit of normal healthy competitive rivalry. The eldest is always mostly the superior 'sporty' one, until they got on skis, then she felt the pressure. The littly had the advantage - lower centre of gravity, shorter skis, less gangly limbs - like I say, she was out to prove a point and did so very well.

It's just "inspire", I'm not sure. I'll be looking out for that this time around.

Smartski,
When we were in group lessons with ESF in La Rosiere they deliberately kept the family groups together, for those over 13 years old.
There were loads of people at our level, so the instructors decided to divide us into 2 groups, and it wasn't until afterwards we realized that they'd done it on the basis of parents and kids - because everyone in our group was either a parent or one of their kids :)

And it seemed to work out very well :)

The French seem to be very keen on families ski-ing together. But I suppose it might not work so well for younger children - I don't know. Are you going to try and get private lessons for your wife and 2 daughters?
