My husband skied mammoth many years ago and absolutely loved it. I have read some reviews of it recently that we're not so favourable on the accommodation. Anyone been there recently? How did you find it? Which accommodation is best ( clean/ fresh)? Please help!!

I skied Mammoth about 10 years ago and it was fantastic. Not so popular with us Brits back then as it was a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas. Not sure if there is a closer airport or not but its a fun twin centre holiday. We stayed in a s/c chalet which was fantastic. You ' ll need a car to get around to and from the lifts and the bars and restaurants. i'd recommend it as long as you're happy with the above.

I live in San Diego and ski and have been skiing at Mammoth frequently since 1991, so, obviously I think the skiing there is great. They usually always have mammoth amounts of snow and its mostly light, dry powder, unlike at the Tahoe ski areas.

The best places to stay are in or close to the Village, which is a Mammoth Ski resorts run facility. The Village can be a little pricey, but there are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, ski lift and lodging places, including the Village apartment/condos themselves. Look up the Village on the mammothmountain.com website. A car is not absolutely necessary, but, unless you fly in to the Mammoth airport, you won't be able to get there without one.

I usually stay either in a condo at the Fireside, next to the village in either 311 or 314 - 3 floors, sleeps 11-14, about $600/night. If I can't find that many people to go, I stay at the St. Anton condos at the bottom of the Canyon Lodge lift area. Walk to the lifts. About $200/night for a large 1 bedroom with full kitchen.
