Well done for highlighting the DEC appeal, Admin. The DEC do a good job, and have a modest administrative cost base. This is a most worthy cause for those of us who are mountain orientated.

I confess that a shiver ran through me, in that my journalist son has done a report from Everest base camp, and, what if thoughts go through your mind.

He also was in Indonesia, reporting on the Tsunami, and several other countries with dodgy problems.

In the early 1990s I was working in Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi. A week after I returned from Burundi, the Tutsi/Hutu war started, and up to 100,000 people were killed, including anyone who was nearby. Engineers on the plants that I worked in lost their lives. Rwanda was a similar near miss. In Kenya, violence was endemic.

It is a bit of a cruel world sometimes.

So, in our relatively safe world, maybe we should give what we can.
