Story here:

At 11.30am this morning, the franc has strengthened 14% against the pound.

That's not going to help their ski industry!

Up 30% against Euro at the moment! It was already expensive but is not going to be prohibitive if these exchange rates hold

Not nice for anybody already booked

Our ski industry is doing well enough. It has never been a cheap country anyway, so not much has changed. SNB stopped interventions to keep franc down so it went up. let's see what the value will be when dust settles. Day traders must be having a good day today.

wow. This is mental, I bought some CHF at 10.55am this morning to take as pocket money for drinks and snacks. Does this mean I have done well out of this?

Excellent timing! I am also planning to buy some euros for summer travel as I hop to France quite often. I hardly ever do it, but 30% is 30% :)

Hi, can anyone assist with the following: I am staying in Champery in Feb, and am just trying to make price comparisons on lift passes. I see that Avoriaz prices for a family of 4 over half term for 8 days is around 948. I cannot check on the Champery site as rather ominously " Online sales are temporarily unavailable". Is there any reason why I cannot buy the portes de soleil pass in France?

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think if you buy a pass in France it only allows you to accesses the lift system from the French side at the start of your days skiing. This is how it works in Zermatt / Cervinia. There is an article the local paper that states that they have reduced the price of lift passes on the Swiss side, see "LES STATIONS FORCEES DE BAISSER LES PRIX?" http://www.lenouvelliste.ch/fr/en-continu/articles/index.php?idContent=1400411
