Hi Tony H,
Ref somewhere cheap betweeen 26th Dec and first week January.... Myself and two other girlies (I'm almost old enough to be mummy ...) have bagged a triple room at the Staffler for £180 each, half board. We're driving down on 27th for the week. However, before now, i've travelled on my own and have met up with friends when I've arrived. I've telephoned Angela at the tourist office in Oberau beforehand and have booked a bed and breakfast direct with one of the many, friendly, very clean and can't-do-enough for you private householders or pension owners. These rooms can be had, for the week, for about £20 per person per night, breakfast incl. I can give you some tel numbers if you like, but am away until late Thursday. L. |

Hello Mr Dublin,
Come to Niederau (God, did I actually say that? and me a good Catholic girl too ...!) See you in the Sportcafe on new Year's Eve ... Small, very friendly resort: people you've slipped and slid into on the piste earlier that day are those you bump into in the bars in the evening. The snow can be a bit dodgy, but when it's good in the Wildschoenau, it's fab. As someone else said a day or two ago, stop faffing around, come to Niederau! L. |

THE ''N'' WORD: I LIKE IT! MY 1ST POST OF THE SEASON.
Oh, Juliet, you may have opened a can of worms indeed! This new year coming, it'll be my 20th year in niederau. i even qualifed as a ski instructor there a few years ago. the village has a very loyal following, with many people, and especially families, returning year after year, some having bought property there over the years. Summer and winter, it's quite a spcial place. It's a safe pair of hands, as it were, for beginners, and the apres ski is a great crack! I must admit, I miss the Dave Lambert nights at the Vicky, and people as old as me might even remember the little bar at the back of the hotel Austria (the Avalanche bar) in the late 80's. there IS enough for the more able skiier, especially if you get in a group led by the likes of Christina Jochum. Why don't you give it a go? Myself, Blodyn1 and another friend will be there for new year. Now, where are those size 10 ski trousers which the hotel Austria flogged me for the princely sum of £100 ...???!!! BLODYN: See you Thursday evening to discuss the allocation of those Tesco vouchers! L.

hi ellistine, yes, adele's right: i would have driven across the severn bridge at three in the morning, encamped outside your front door and formed an orderely queue for those tickets!
good on ya for generously offering them for free: i would have paid you for them, bless you! but as a teacher who travels around local schools i just cannot throw a sickie with all three schools! and the snow looks bloody 'ofnadwy' in niederau! laura. |

... but even if the Wildschoenau DOES have a dump next week, surely by now the ground is too warm to hold it? What base have you got there, Jan Stenmark? Sepp Seisl, Moarhof, would be my choice for an accurate forecast. L.

to jan/stenmark,
i've just looked at your gallery of pics. they ARE stunning, quite, quite beautiful. have only passed the Auhof en route to rudi's at the top. i am literally sitting at my computer salivating at niederau, especailly the one 'twinkle twinkle little village' or words to that effect. am trying to persuade friends to re - book for niederau next season, but they want to go to kitbuhel for new year. sigh. will email them the link to your site. my cavalier king charles would love it there ...L. |

wa-hey!! i can do that! i didn't have a clue what you people were on about but then i watched the video. i can't explain what i do, but yes, i spin! i was taught to do it on the mittermoos in niederau years ago wearing blades, holding hands in pairs and in a group of about 5 or 6 people (best fun ever!) and then managed to do it on skis. hi adele,
yes, am kicking myself, especially as last nov/dec, i lined up several excellent flights and prices, but left it too late this time to do anything about it. the yellow sticky i'd written all the deals down on was still in my diary last week, and i have transferred it to 'bring forward' next november! i've already tried to get prices in niederau with 'Pack your Bags': they tell me they can do a week NEXT february half term at the hotel sonnschein for just over £900!! ERH?! |
