Been their several times and love the ski-ing. Very beginner friendly with some nice easy runs back to the top of the Gondola, but also a good amount of more advanced runs on the other side of the mountain and on the way to and from France.
The Planibel Apartments might seem a little basic if you have been to other resorts, I would say they are the most basic of all the places I have stayed, however, dont let that put you off, as if it's the ski-ing your interested in your in for a treat :) Just thinking of booking this coming January's trip now and certinly considered another trip to La Thuile, but in the end we have decided on looking at somewhere new we havent seen, pretty much decided on Sestriere, would be great to hear the opinions of anyone that has been their! |

Hi!
Hope your not getting fed up with all the 'Can you recommend me a resort' threads,as Im about to ask the same question  This year i've been tasked with sorting out the Ski holiday (not a problem, as I usually let someone else sort everything out and just ask them to let me know how much I owe them, so I suppose it is my turn! ) Basically looking for a holiday for a group of 6 - 8 to ski late January (WC 21/1 or 28/1 would be fine). The group is made up of pretty solid 'intermediates', all have between 3 - 6 week long ski holidays worth of experience under our belts - would say we are comfortable on Blue / Red, most of us also happy to have a go on easier Blacks. Main requirements of the group is a good 'ski' resort (naturally :D), however by that I mean that we're not massivly concerned about a lively Apre Ski, as it's the actual Skiing that interests us, also we are all Ski-ers, no boarders. Providing there a good bar or 2 for a drink after the days ski-ing this will be fine, not bothered about being able to drink into the small hours (gets in the way of the next days ski-ing! ) We have previously been to La Thuile (several times, loved it), Bardoecchia (loved that too!), Arinsal/Pal in Andorra (had very poor ski-ing whether so difficult to judge) and Borovets (first ever ski experiance for most of us, chosen as it was cheap. Learned a very important lesson, pay more and never go to Bulgaria again!!) while we love the Italian resorts we have previously been to, I'm keen to go somewhere new to explore new runs - just gave the above as a taster for the sort of thing we like. Have been Self Catering and Half board, dont mind either, have always stayed in hotel, never tried Chalet (not to say we wouldn't). Anyone able to recommend any areas to have a look at that based on the above you think we might enjoy? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

Hi There!
Been lurking these forums for a few weeks, but this is my first post :) I've been to La Thuile twice, most recently 2 years ago so I doubt it's changed too much since I last went. Going again on 23rd Jan for a week and getting really excited!! (Hence the lurking on Ski forums!) To clear up the Drag lift / Chair lift confusion, you can get all the way from La Thuile to La Rosiere by Chair lift and ski-ing, however three is no way to avoid the Bellecombe 1 drag lift to get back (and it's REALLY long), you can avoid the Bellecombe 2 by taking a left at the end of B1 and you will eventually end up at the Piccolo San Bernado chair lift. Don't be too put off by the drag though - it's well worth the trip to La Ross, there are some fantastic runs over there, you also tend to find that if it windy in one of the resorts, it's more sheltered in the other, depending on the direction of the wind. Your pass will also let you Ski Courmayeur, which is a 10 minute bus trip away, never made the trip so cant give an opinion on the area, but deffo plan to do so this trip. Basically - You'll love it   |
