I stayed at the Planibel in La Thuile - it's absolutely fine, as long as you go there with the correct expectations.

We had one of the self-catered apartments to sleep 2 - there was a basic kitchenette with a sink, fridge, microwave and 2-ring hob, plus a few kitchen items - saucepan, frying pan, plates etc. The apartment was clean. It wasn't big, but we didn't spend too much time in it - we were there to ski after all!

There's not much in the way of apres-ski - there was a bar which got reasonably busy, and then a sort of pub type place which was downstairs from the main area - it had a pool table etc, and they did very good freshly made pizzas. we spent quite a bit of time in there.

Overall - the Planibel is very good if you are on a budget and not too bothered about having wild apres ski.

There were a few Russians around, but so what! They didn't take over the place or anything.

the best thing about it is the proximity to the main lift - it's right next door. You can walk out of your apartment and be skiing your first run within 5-10 mins. I haven't been to Brides-les-Bains, but I have heard that it is way down in the valley, and you would be looking at a 30-45 min cable car each morning and each afternoon to get to the ski area.

Channel 4 were there for the week and we obliged for half an hour on the 1st day on the nursery slopes doing some snow plough turns as newbie skiers under the careful guidance of Steve, our instructor. Steve must be good because we were heading down a bumpy red run an hour or so later!! )

Steve actually writes a (frankly excellent) daily report from Val D'Isere over on Snowheads - link (sorry - rival forum.... .)

I have been following his report every day for the last couple of months, as I am going to Val D'Isere later this month - and he talks about the Channel 4 show, and there are some fab pics of the proposal itself as well.

He often talks about his customers, you'd better check what he said about you! (He's always very nice about them)

I will certainly be tuning in, to see Steve, Val D'Isere, and now you too!
