Thanks for the reply, Bandit - sounds like my cup of tea! I'll work on convincing the collegues.
I will take your bias as a good thing! Could you give some advice on lodging? Are there B&Bs within walking distance to the lifts? I assume that I can deal with equipment rental at the ski resort? Thanks for the help! |

I have never been to either area, will be taking a train from Basel in mid-January. Both areas seem to be excellent for expert skiers, and since I have not heard of Grimentz in the US, I am very interested! I like a mix of on/off pieste and hate lift lines.
Which is going to be easier for me to get to via train? I am assuming that Grimentz is smaller, therefore less crowded - is this true? Any other considerations that will help me decide? |

Thanks for the response! Now one of my French colleagues is suggesting that I consider Grimentz. From the resort description on this site, is sounds excellent. I will post a new topic asking for advice on choosing.

I will be in Zermatt to ski with colleagues on weekend of January 14/15 while in Europe on business. Planning on taking the train from Basel.
I am looking for recommendations on: 1) Decent priced lodging that will be convenient to transporation to lifts? 2) Where should I rent equipment from? 3) Best expert and advanced intermediate skiing? Any thing else I should know about Zermatt? Bars, etc.? |

I have a free weekend coming up in Milan. Can anyone recommend a ski area that offers good expert skiing and is reasonably easy to reach from Milan?
Thanks! |

Thanks for the help! I have booked into a hotel near the center of Chamonix, close to the bus station, and will plan on Grand Montets. Now for some early season snow.................

While travelling for business in early December, I have the opportunity to fly in and out of Geneva on the 10-12 December weekend.
This will be my first time in the area. My tentative plans are to take a transfer (like Cham-Van) from Geneva airport to Chamonix. I would like some recommendations on where to ski and where to stay. I know the the conditions could be poor during that weekend, but skiing poor conditions is still better than not skiing at all! Other considerations - I will be renting all of my gear and I am an older (56) expert skier and will be traveling solo. Any recommendations? |
