Great info Ashcopp. From the little bit of resort info I've gleaned ref nightlife, Selva seems to be the spot and from your post would also appear to tick the box of slope proximity too.
Btw, we are a reduced group of four - for this year at least - and despite having an age range of 69 (yours truly) down to 40, we do enjoy a good old knees up of an evening. Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to respond to my query and I may have course to call on you again at some stage. |

Many thanks Ashcoop. Having had experience of basing yourself in different resorts within the area, where could you recommend for a small group that likes to party and have pretty quick/easy access to the slopes?
Plus, perhaps my searches weren't as comprehensive as they could have been, but the provision of packages or accommodation for the area appeared to be very limited or nonexistent. (I confess that those searches were limited to Val Gardena/Selva, so that probably did skew results quite a bit). To complicate things further we are based in Northern Ireland so that unless we could use a Dublin departure we would inevitably have a hop across to the mainland (most likely Manchester for convenience) which always increase the costs and can be a logistical headache for coordinating flights within time constraints. At the moment it does seem as if it may remain an unrealised aspiration, but I'll not give up without a decent attempt! ATB, Dave |

We have just booked Zell Am See for 11th-18th March 2023 and was wondering if there were folk out there that could advise on how the resort and area has fared at this time over the past few years.
My chum and I used to always go in late season - tail end of March & even early April - and were very rarely troubled with a lack of snow. Mind you, we generally did head for a destination that had a fair degree of altitude just in case. The more recent years though have been late January and February trips so that snow worries weren't really an issue and I haven't kept myself appraised of the trend of late season snow conditions in Europe for the past few years. Anyhoo, I hope someone will be able to share some experience. ATB, Dave |

I have never skied the Sella Ronda and consequently have a desire to do so, however it appears that it's not the easiest to get to. I tried all sorts of combinations of airport destinations and subsequent bus/train transfers, but was beset with long or expensive options and limited choice of UK-Italy/Austria departures.
It became so complicated that I gave up hope for this year (22-23) and have booked Zell Am See instead, but I'm thinking well ahead for next year (23-24) and I'm hoping that folk out there who have made the trip - self-organised or package - can give me some idea of how I may achieve this goal. Many thanks for any help provided, Dave. |

Evening Snapzzz.
I'd like to give a public acknowledgement to yourself and Aplews for the very helpful and informative heads-up you both provided prior to our trip to Flaine. The group undoubtedly benefited from it. It won't be long before I'm approaching some unsuspecting veteran forum poster with requests for similar tips for Avoriaz. Perhaps there is an equally comprehensive Snapzzz-style review of the resort lurking out in the forum or poss some experienced readers of this thread that may enlighten Diogocyrineu & myself on the hidden charms of Avoriaz & PDS. |

Hi Dids,
Yes enjoyed Flaine. Snow was marvellous, tho' visibilty (& consequently skiing) was limited for a couple of days due to heavy falls. We got three and a half days good weather and I managed to suss out just about everywhere in the area. I have to agree with you that Samoens and Morillon (+ to a lesser extent Les Carroz) are much more attractive, plus have the better runs of the whole area. The rest of the party, four of whom had been in Livigno last year, were impressed with the scenery and variety of skiing in Flaine, altho' they all agreed that the architectural aesthetics were definitely inferior. I would go back again, but poss stay in one of the villages for a change. The virtual ski in/ski out location of our apartment in Flaine was very good, plus the very close proximity of our ski hire and access to pubs. supermarkets and descent to the the Forum area added to its favour. It has to be said that eating and drinkies were quite limited in comparison to other places I've been, but we didn't let that get in the way of a good time. Thanks for your help prior to the trip. Dave. |

Hello Diogocyrineu.
Like you, our wee group had been hunting about for somewhere new to go in March and we came up with PDS/Avoriaz. Previous years we've usually gone in late March, even early April, and managed to be very lucky with snow depth/conditions wherever we've been. (Last year VT, 2011 Tignes, 2010 La Plagne, 2009 Tignes etc, etc.) We've already booked our (D.i.Y.) trip for March 16 - 23 in Avoriaz, so its too late to change now. We're just going to cross our fingers and take it as it comes. I'm just back from Flaine and we had bucket-loads of snow, so if the trend continues, or is even maintained over the next 9 weeks, I don't think there will be too many problems. No matter where you pick, unless there's some quite unseasonally unusual freeze, it'll get soft, sticky & 'porridgey' at least down in resort level and probably all lower slopes of any place in late March/early April. All the best with your decision anyway. Maybe see you in Avoriaz. |
