Thanks everyone for your comments - Mrs Dean has managed to get down to 2 Kgs overweight. So all the electrical items are going in my ski jacket pockets!

Anyone flown with Thompson from Manchester lately can tell me what the luggage checks were like. Our hand luggage normally weighs 10kg and is 23cm wide (OK for most airlines). Thompson say 20 cm and 5kg. Has anyone got any comments on their recent experiences of having their hand luggage checked or not check as the case maybe?

Bandit that was my fault! I must stress it wasn't really that dangerous, but for a few minutes I felt very disorientated.

I went up to Birg in a blizzard on the 26 Jan. I had lost the rest of my guided ski party and was looking for them. I could barely see 20 yards as I went down the road towards the top of the piste where it meets the Schilthorn black. By the time I got to the junction and turned right I couldn't see the end of my arm! there was a foot of new powder on the piste. I got very disorientated and didn't know whether I was skiing forwards or backwards. After about 20 minutes I managed to ski to the lift at the bottom. That was the first time I was, to put it politely, a little apprehensive when skiing.
Went down on the cable car and met up with the party in Murren where it was like another day. It was like being off piste on piste. Roll on week on Saturday  |

My vote is for Jungfrau, provided you have your car - Twice as large, very varied, different area every other day. Easy to get to from Interlaken. You might need to allow an extra 1/2 hour to drive to Zweilütschinen and park your car, but from there you can take a train and cable car in at least 4 different directions. Alternatively you can just drive to Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen or Stecklberg to access the lifts and trains.
Great skiing guaranteed. |

Thanks Chris Brookes ... looking forward to it - some new powder looks likely next week, so conditions should be good. The hotel is a real treat as well.

We're just about to go back on our 2nd Swiss ski holiday this year to the same hotel, the Victoria Lauberhorn in Wengen with Crystal. It isn't cheap, but its not expensive either, especially as Crystal are doing 2 for 1 on the lift passes, and the package includes flights and a coach transfer to Wengen and the hotel includes a great spa with a good pool, water massage and rapid river, etc. Personally I like the Swiss food more than France (Also had a week in the 3 valleys last week) and the Jungfrau in particular is very pretty when compared to Paradiski, 3 Valleys or Les 2 Alpes.
If you can find a good deal, go to Switzerland, especially Jungfrau. Enough to keep anyone happy for a week (or two). Eating out is OK. At the restaurant Almendhubel you can get a nice salad and an enormous Snitzel and chips for about CHF25 which is plenty for 2 to share (I'd defy most people to eat it solo). Alternatively, you can buy a baguette and eat it in the many indoor heated picnic rooms under the lift stations (unlike many places in France). |
