We have just have a wonderful week of skiing in Val d'lsere, lots of snow, but poor visibility most of the time, and lots of the runs were closed some days, so it was a matter of finding open runs and any safe off piste (with guide) mainly close to runs and in the trees, as the avalanche risk was very high.
Unfortunately one of a party had a little fall and broke her leg. We got her off the mountain and to the medical centre, followed by having the leg operated on. On speaking to the rep it turns out there were three people who had accidents that week, that did not have insurance. We had enough problems without worrying about the cost, just trying to to sort things out and make sure she was taken care of. We worked out the cost of getting of the mountain, medical treatment, taxis to the hospital, operation, taxi back, drugs, alterations for flights and taxi to the airport. 1550 euros. Our insurance cost for the year with multi trip policy is £170.00 for a family and ski club membership. Moral of the story take out insurance |

Earlier this morning a Polish skier was injured when a small aircraft aborted his take off and crashed into the ski area.
Only injured her hand, but taken to hospital That is one of the strangest ski accidents I have come across  http://www.morznet.com/news/skier-hit-by-plane-in-avoriaz-682210 |
