Alpe D’Huez Must Do Runs
Started by User in France, 9 Replies
Andy, I agree, it is a fantastic place. We have spent 3 weeks there over the last couple of years and must be particularly unlucky as the tunnel has always been closed.
Fancied a change this year so going to Flaine to do a few tree lined runs which is about the only thing I can think of that ADH lacks.
Think we will be going ADH next year, hope to get the tunnel ticked off then :P

Hi Snapzzz, That does look a nice run. Good video of it too, what camera have you got?

Hi,

Booked to stay in Morillon this xmas, for the Grand Massif ski area.
Where are the good places to eat and which are the best runs?

Cheers :P

I have a Spyder "Leader" Jacket and North face hyvent salopettes that I have used to -25 with just a Helly hansen lifa set of base layer clothing underneath. Berghaus extrem mitts are the dogs doodas  It is the cooling down while standing around or whilst sat on exposed ski lifts you need to watch out for, it is better to be slightly cool when exercising as opposed to getting all hot and sweaty and then having all that moisture cool you down when you are stationary  My jacket has 100g insulation on the body, 80 on the arms and is 20000 waterproof and 20000 breathable. I think you will need a better jacket than the one you specify in your original post.
Where shall we go this year?

We went to Vaujany last year and have already booked to go again this year. The road to the village is a lot better than the single track to ADH. There is a reasonably easy black run down to a lift that takes you back to the main lift near the village. There are moving stairways in covered tunnels that get you up and down in ski boots without too much walking. It is easier to get high on the mountain quick from Vaujany than ADH. Don't know much about night life because I only go to ski as far and as fast as I can (to give you some idea we had skied all the runs that were open by the end of day 2) so I am too tired to go out on the razz at night, that said there are a few bars and restaurants dotted around.

Those of you considering your next renewal may want bear my experience with AA Insurance in mind.

Bad news :( Time for you to engage in their formal complaint procedure, and then prepare your paperwork for submission to the Financial Ombudsman.

Hi,

If you don't already have one, find yourself a decent solicitor.

Assuming you don't already have a solicitor who you have previously used, ring around your local ones and find someone who will give you the first half hour free. DO NOT go with a "no win no fee" one. The former will give you a more honest opinion of your claim status than the latter.

Hope you get it sorted.
How steep is a blue run ???

Hi, I've skied "plastic" and snowdome snow. once you can ski you will find the plastic better for improving your technique. The soft snow and shallow slope make the snowdome much too easy. The plastic stays difficult until you are an intermediate. Either way you will find the steep slopes in a resort terrifying, until your technique lets you ski down them safely, practice getting on your edges as you turn then you will be able to ski down pretty much everything.
Dachstien west

Hi,
I was wondering what the Dachstien west ski area is like, it looks very scenic. Are the runs mostly intermediate level, is there any more decent skiing nearby, where is the best place to stay in the area?
Thanks
