Don't want to hijack this but I am puzzled as to why you don't want to go back to 3Vs? I went last year for the first time and I'm going again next. What's not to like?
Mike

I am planning on a shorter snappier version but I have this for now.
I've just come back from Val Thorens and there were plenty of queues getting out of town but I don't remember any pushing. Maybe I'm just used to it.
Val d'isere over Christmas

We stayed in Tignes this Christmas and I have to say it was hard to tell that it was Christmas. We skied over to VDI but didn't spend enough time there to comment, but I got the impression that French ski resorts don't really do Christmas. Maybe its just Tignes though.

Don't mess with a man with a mop.
Mops and robbers

The big difference is the time of day. If you ski it between 10 and 12 in the morning it is much much easier than the afternoons when it is busier and bumpy.

Ha,,,,,the book ! ( and now You Tube ) !
Learning by the book,,,is fine to get the "main idea" of what skiing is all about, but well travelled skiers will tell you that the book can never prepare you for;
-the challenges you will face ( both physical and mental)
-the many senses awakened in you
-the fears and joys you will have
-the freedom discovered
-the techniques and strategies you must and will acquire.

The book is so "intellectual" skiing is so sensual !

Sorry Mike but yes a one time book read is fine, but if you want soar then get lessons at least to get basics. 90% of skiers do just 3 major "errors" and if they could avoid these they will enjoy skiing so much more.

Strange how skiers will pay many euros for great outfits, skis, hotel etc,,,,but on themselves to be better skiers,,,,,,,,,,,

You deserve it,,,,,,so do it ! As the French say it,,you will have, "pure bonheur" !

Thank you very much for the comments. I have had a few lessons.

Is Zermatt worth the costs$$?

Let's rule out France because the schools will still be holidaying the first week of March, and although some resorts have good après the prices are generally punitive. This leave Austria, but better sliding Kitzbuhel or maybe Saalbach.

Something wrong with Italy? The Dolomites?
