It snowed on Saturday and looks like that was it for Winter. Temperatures on the rise again, winter is cancelled, please bring hiking boots and sun-cream.

Seriously? I'm headed to Sestrière on Friday. Is there no snow? Ahhh well i guess the spa will be getting good use then...

I'm personally quite new to skiing so i still prefer the sound of the mountain (ie silent) and the sound of my skis on the snow.

I was walking down the street last year listening to my ipod, when some frantic guy came up to me and patted me on the shoulder, apparently i'd just walked over 20 metres of hot road tar oblivious to the workers screaming at me... ruined a very nice pair of shoes actually...

James since you did not mention that you would like to participate before today ( even if as "observer") you will miss the "private" data sent via PM!
Do you mind?

I think i'll try and dip in as and where i can. I'm off to Sestriere on Friday (to practice 'carving') for a week of skiing so i won't have much internet access for realtime lesson... sorry... will i be able to get a good 'feel' by reviewing material posted here?

I'm heading out to the Sauze/Sestrière area on Friday. I'm concerned about the snow and not really sure about interpreting the snow reports on the site.

Is there already enough snow on the slopes to ski and when are the lefts opening up? Does anybody have any ideas?

:?:

I don't have any skis, old nor new

However i will still listen in order to better understand the physics of the ski and how best to utilise.

I would say for a lot of people the expense of going to the US from Europe is restrictive.

When you spend all year thinking about the snow you basically just want to get out as soon as you can. I will personally go next week and in March as well, i'm happy to take my chances, however this still doesn't stop be buzzing around like a chipmunk on LSD wondering whether there will be snow in December.

Turns out the reason i couldn't find any info is because of my bad spelling. It's actually Preg'e'lato , like the ice cream i suppose. This is the info i found on the place...

"In Sestiere itself the 2006 Winter Olympics saw the installation of various new lift systems including the Trebial and Garnel chairlifts, the Pragelato-Sestriere cable car and high tech Fraiteve. In addition, floodlighting was installed on the slalom course and two new lakes were built."

Sounds promising!!!

Where would you recommend in the States? I have this strange mental image of Disney on Snow. Are there quite organic places you can ski or is it all snowtheme parks, chairlifts and smiles?
