Thanks,

Just checked with my boss/ski pal. We are going to White Pass Saturday. Sunday we are going to Mt Hood, haven't been there in 32 years :-o We get 5 free days there with our WP seasons pass. Mt Hoods top lift is 11,000 ft! they are actually open 350 days a year (only closed for 2 week maintenance). It is a bit farther than WP, in Oregon, but we have to go down there for business on Mon/Tue/Wed so we figured we would combine the trip. We should finish our business, back in Washington, early Wed, about 1 hour on the other side of WP, So we should be able to get at least a half day in at WP that day  Then the next day is "Thanksgiving" with a 4 day weekend, will probably ski 2 or 3 of those days. If you could see me, I am dancing around my room :D Here's an approximation:

Well it has been a while since I posted. Last season was great, made it up 18 times :D and my first trip wasn't till January. This year is looking better already, the season opened up 2-4 weeks earlier than normal. I went skiing last Sat & Sun and am doing the same this weekend  I am hoping to make it up at least 25-30 times this year. I have seasons pass at White Pass http://skiwhitepass.com/ only cost $329 when I bought it early. Last year was my first time back skiing in about 15 years, I am loving the new style skis. I use to ski a lot, then I got married and had kids etc.....

Just wanted to say hi again and share how much I am enjoying skiing again.

Update,

Well we just spent the last 3 days skiing, (Trent, Me, My boss and a couple other friends) My boss got a condo and we skied Fri, Sat and Sun. The best 3 days of skiing I have ever had and probably, as Trent (my son) said, the best 3 days of our lives. I don't mean to go on about my son too much, but sorry, I can't hold it in. Today, his 4th day skiing, he skied 4 Black diamond runs. He didn't tentatively edge down them either, he took them on, cut a few nice turns and rode out to the bottom. I was, and still am, speechless. He made very nice turns on a steep mogul filled run and seemed to do it with more confidence than I sometimes have. Watching him take to skiing so well and when he said these had been the best 3 days of his life, I really have no words to convey how I feel.

LM wrote:wow! 12 week break in the usa,I didnt know that! In Canada it is 8 weeks (july and Aug.) but kids do get 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week in march for spring break.

It is usually a little less than 12 weeks, mid June to late August or early September. The requirement is that children get 180 days of education per year. There is a 4 day weekend at "Thanksgiving" (always on a Thursday) about 2 weeks at Xmas and 1 week for spring break, plus about a half dozen other various 1 day holidays.

I told Trent (my son) I would pull him out of school to go skiing on a few random weekdays (It is SO much less crowded) as long as he stayed on the Honor roll (above 3.25 gpa). Hopefully the ski season last at least another couple months this year, so we can get up at least another 10 times or so.

I will be teaching my daughter next year, she will be 13. I wish I could have gotten them started earlier but we only now can afford it. When we all can ski together it will be great. It's all my son can talk about today, he want's to take the next month off and just ski.

Well I got back up again today, 5th time this year (would have been more but we bought our first house in December and have been very busy). I am having every bit as much fun as I had hoped and remembered, but today was a new high. I took my son skiing for the first time, he is 15. I don't think I can remember a more enjoyable time, he did GREAT. We went with a couple friends from my work, I let Scott do most of the teaching (he is an excellent skier & instructor) within 1 hour he was skiing, having a basic feel and understanding for wedge turns and doing well, he then had a professional 1.5 hr lesson, they didn't cover anything new but it helped him solidify what my friend had taught him. By the end of the day he had been skiing about 4-5 hours and we took him to the top of the mountain and he skied down well, fantastically for his first day. Best of all he had a blast and can't wait to go again.

WOW it felt great. Beautiful day, hardly anyone there, I felt like the only one on the mountain. I skied more runs than I could count, towards the end of the day I was skiing like it did 20 years ago, I started feeling no fear like I was a teenager again  . It was fantastic! No one could get the day off so I was up there solo. I couldn't get any pix of me but here are a couple of the view. I took a couple videos with my camera (not a camcorder) the quality is OK, If I can figure out how to post to Youtube I'll let you know. 1st & 2nd pix are from the top, 3rd is about 1/2 way down on "Cascade". I spent the whole day on easy & more difficult, all the "most difficult" runs were closed due to ice but that was fine. I enjoyed the easier runs, I wanted to take it a bit easy anyway. I can't wait to get back up, I think I feel a "cold" coming on

* edit: "It" was fantastic, not "I" *
