Thank you forv the report.
I´m planning to go to Portes Du Soleil first week in March but you "have put the fly behind my ear" and not very sure now. I was also thinking about the Viking but heard your&other reports from people about clientelle&food&situation. I would appreciate if you or anyone would tell me about other hotels in Morzine(sauna at least and better if whirlpol+/swimming pool). I have skied at Zermatt&Selva Gardena&St Anton&La Plagne-Arcs&Vail and would thank if PdS resists the comparison or not. My level is intermediate: reds and "easy groomed" blacks, really I prefer Steep but GROOMED. Might be better 3 Valleés? THANKS A LOT |

I have never heard about that, unless it is something Chris Geary has some pictures about in his page.
I would thank if you describe it somehow. |

Not far from Innsbruck you`ll find STUBAITAL, being Neustift the main village. There´s total snow insurance:365/365 Glacier skiing.Happy Stubai Hotel good price and facilities.
In fact it is included in the Innsbruck Gletcher Skipass if you don´t mind staying in Innsbruck. You could have the Innsbruck Gletcher Skipass which gived the opportunity of skiing in 5 resorts around the city with Free skiBus departing from any of the ample choice of hotels and asking for the SuperSkipass.the chance to ski one day at St. Anton am Alberg and Kitzbühel. Details at Innsbruck Tourist Board. Ischgl is covered by the same Silvretta Arena Pass than GALTUR which is much cheaper and offers a choice of "tranquile partying" or short drive/ Bus to festive Ischgl |

Do Columbus or Direct Travel cover HELI RESCUE? San Anton rescuers are very fond of it.

I´m heading to San Anton in 2 weeks where I´ve read the rescue service uses the unfortunate skiers for training purposes, no matter the accessibility they always favour the HELICOPTER RESCUE.
I had been to Sölden in 2008(End of seasson) and not seen any Heli rescue frenzy. I´m thinking about Columbus or Direct Travel ski insurance but Columbus doesn´t explicitly mention PHYSIOTHERAPY expenses whilst Direct Travel does. On the other hand, Columbus(or UK only Complete Ski subsidiary)says:" Complete Ski's specialist winter sport travel insurance policies include helicopter recovery, mountain rescue and air ambulance as standard as well as comprehensive medical, equipment and cancellation cover" Until I googled yesterday I had Direct Travel for years and good price. Which do you think is better? :?: I went to ZERMATT (FEB 2009) where all this scary fables (American skiers, it seems)about "beware, very difficult, etc..."come from and even on not very good conditions: foggy (hate it as I cannot see the depth) mildly windy and very cold, yet I managed to ski down the slopes. :) Most of the Rothorn, Sunnega,Gornergrat Areas Reds are narrow and the resort was not crowded but "populated". I am an Intermediate skier who can manage most Reds(even easy blacks in good wheather/snow conditions) . Any clues about any Pre-CAUTION needed? Best skiing areas for an "Experienced Intermediate" :shock:/in the Arlberg Area? Rather skilft to Stüben and take the free Skibus to Zürs/Lech? Thank you in advance |

Has anyone skied in Sierra Nevada?

Innsbrucker thanks for the promotion of "ye olde" Alps skiing tradition, but in Norway they claim they invented skiing as well.
Sierra Nevada has the same number of beginners as any resort close to a city, Granada, which has a very cosmopolite herd od turists and foreign/local students. I suppose that in Innsbruck you don´t get pounds for pennies, well in Sierra Nevada is the same: cheap hire, cheap skis???. Although I seriously doubt about your sapience on ski equipment as, this for you despectively noted, "Dynamic" is a well known French brand. There were many English speaking skiers&families when I went 2 years ago during Feruary white weeks/Carnival. :lol:Another contradiction; for a place, you say, not used to skiing, how on earth there was such a traffic jam? They don´t ski, do they? I agree, not the cheapest skipass and long weekend queues at the bottom. Go as i did on 21st April 2001, ]WONDERFUL,SUNNY, NOT POPULATEDpistes ; no wonder it was formerly known as SolyNieve. :) From Fuengirola(Málaga) to Sierra Nevada just 90 min drive, not later than 6:30 pm back to a late beach hit. Moreover, if you stay on the "Costa Tropical" or East Costa del Sol is just a jiffy. Back to the ski,February 2007, by that time there had been a 4 year gap in my skiing activity and I was 5 stones heavier  and the conditions on first day were dreadful: Foggy, snow sprinkling, windy. I hired a One2One ski instructor, "Ricky"[/b] from TELEMARK Ski hire&Ski School ) to get me off rust and Good Lord he did it!! Next day a complete change,a SOL ESPLÉNDIDO. Ricky was engaged so I got "the Boss"(Jose Antonio??) of Telemark who being Sunday and noticing that I was again well polished, took me to the routes and slopes free from the weekenders frenzy. One of my best skiing days, you know, one of those that everything goes right and as I say "is the snow that gets tired, not you". Then, yes the stranded traffic down to Granada Airport but we got a canny plan following locals through the old road to Granada town: we saved 30 minutes. We arrived on thursday night with Ryanair, missed the first day Friday: Sunny but Windy day so pistes closed and headed to Granada for sightseeing&shopping&tapas and at 3 pm hit the motorway for the Almuñecar coast resort and back in Granada at 9 pm ready for "cena" and fiesta. Weekend 2 day Ski breaks possible, go to the Sur!! |

Summarising-avoid high caloric food and refined carbohydrates. In case of the occasional boozy treat swaet it out. I need to suffer a bit otherwise I would feel I´m not dieting so I´m going to combine a low caloric and low carbs diet. Instead of milk I´m having soya milk(Tesco´s is the lowest carbs).Swimming is a must for me:inctreases my O2 consumption, alleviates my backache and in a way relaxes me. I need the treadmill/country ski apparatus to harden the remnants of flesh and gain aerobic endurance. Cycling or other gymm tools suitable for the muscle groups used for skiing would be a bonus. I will ask the trainers at David Lloyd´s.
Let´s see how I could manage the educational events(lectures/presentations followed by dinner) I regularly attend, fortnightly.I would have to sweat them out as well. |

I know that the important thing is PERSEVERANCE and boring diets are good only for 2 days, BUT I get cheered when results come quick.
Seeing and feeling the lose and confort fit of my trousers waist line encourages me. Had it been for me I wouldn´t it at all when on a diet; the problems is that you get Fluffy and become a "thin FAT": no muscular mass, promising nothing but a REBOUND (BONG,BONG, like a meatball-LOAF). I tried before Atkin´s without the saturates and insisting on fish proteins and lost a lot. I didn´t need to gasp when walking to the lifts, I could hop over fences and putting on/taking off the boots was not a "chinese work/torture", my plants didn´t suffer as now due to the weight. Ahhh, those days. Anyway todays would be my last "non rabbit, non sparrow sized portions, starchy+fatty+boozy real meal. God got me confessed!! |
