St Anton, and Lech are very close to the swiss border, so easy to get to. 2 1/2 hour drive, but as a previous post says, there's a train also. Very easy. YEs, and a lot cheaper than Switzerland!!! Although lech is expensive, it's fabulous for beginners, intermediates and experts alike.
Enjoy

Hi
I have now been to Alpbach 4 times! And I'm a baby.... It's full of people who go year after year after year. It doesn't seem to matter that the slopes are extensive. plus there's always the off piste, which is amazing.

Apres ski centres around the Post Alm - great food too, the Jakober, and the Hotel Berghof. There are numerous resaurants though.

The town is separate to the bottom of the slopes, so best to hire a locker at either Inneralpbach or at the bottom of Wiedersberhhorn. We prefer the ski down to Wiedersberghorn though, rather than inneralpach and the slopes are better in the afternoon there too. The bars at the bottom of both are great.
Enjoy.... it's an amazing place.

We found it by accident. Got a last minute (allocation on arrival) and was taken to Alpbach. Now we go there and nowhere else!
Just to share with anyone who is interested in buying Elan Skis. I loved the ones I hired in Italy and chickened out of buying them. I then changed my mind and haven't found anywhere in the UK. I then found Keith Evans who runs Elan Ski Sales. He can be found on www.elanskisales.co.uk

Really helpful. ordered the ones I wanted and sells them at what he sells to shops at, so a LOT LOWER IN PRICE than buying retail. Thanks Keith.

Take Stugeron with you. Tablets. It's the travel pill I use for kids - NOT DROWSY making and works wonders for whiteout travel sickness. Buy them from any chemist before you go. Fab
Hi. Alpbach is a wonderful resort and full of fun. Lots for kids to do in the centre of the village (tabogan slope on the nursery slope in evenings). lots of child friendly bars and lots of families, where you'll meet others for yourself being single. ALSO - it's about half the price of any other resort we know. You can't beat it. You will LOVE IT

Thanks for your replies.. Funnily enough we looked at the Eidelweiss in Obergurl and then found out my brother is going there the same week, so decided that meant a no no - as want it just us 2 this time around. Montana also looked at and loved it, but they were booked up that week, except in the most expensive room which was out of our price range. Tennerhof looks FANTASTIC and will take a look....... thanks so much.
Luxury hotel Italy or Austria

Hi
Am looking for a luxury hotel in either Italy or Austria for my honeymoon in January '11. We would love one of those half in/half out swimming pools, but although it's on a wish list and not as important as the hotel and resort/access to ski etc. We love being in a town so we can pop out for a drink etc and get a bit of life, but are not 'night-life' people. (having a beer or two around 4-6pm before dinner is enough for us hehe). So many of the upmarket hotels are out of town.... Any ideas of a luxury hotel in either place please.
Thanks
