What's it like to ride an alpine snowboard
Started by Trencher in Snowboarding, 13 Replies
I had my first taste of Alpine boarding today. My first reaction was not good. Christ the boots hurt and were heavy and clumpy as... well, ski boots...

I ride Duck stance and freestyle a fair bit on the mtn. The forward lean angles that seem obligatory (narrow board) were well weird...

I'll give it another go but wasn't impressed very much...

Am I missing something????

I was up there today. Pistes are in excellent shape. Off-piste is okay, in need of some fresh snow (as is all off-piste everywhere all the time). Slopes empty....

Hey Rorrie,

Up at Jasna (by the resort) there is really only the hotels. There's not a great deal of nightlife up there. Down the valley (15km) in the town of Liptovksy Mikulas you'll find a lot more (rests. bars, clubs, shops).
If you have a car then I would advise staying in the town and driving up to resort (or there are shuttle buses). There's all sorts of places to stay in town...
The train is easy, nice and cheap.

Stick with it Caron; the first two days can be a bit sore - all the boarders you see riding fluidly have been there - but once you start to get it you'll never go back to those heavy clumpy ski things....

I've managed to get hold of a 155 carver board. Granted it is shorter than ideal but I'll give it a go anyways...

For years the missus has been on at me to get a lid, and I kept putting it off, because I never really want to wear one...
So she bought me one for Xmas, which I was obliged to wear of course.

Warm and unobtrusive, it felt hardly any different to a beanie....

And if I were to cross swords with some ice/snow-cannon or club-wielding ogre, I might come out better off....
