1. Talk to random folk in the pub that they should try skiing.

2. Make sure the pub serves quality, ice cold crisp continental lager.

3.Tell random folk's friends in the pub, that skiing really is very worth while trying

4.Soak up mid afternoon rays in the pub beer garden/restaurant terrace/public park/country meadow/friend's gaff's garden/your own gaff's garden.

5.Have some cereal bars and loads of water.

6. Ask one of your friends to order more cold drinks, and steak and thin chips with mustard and garlic mushrooms on the side, with perhaps bread and quality butter. Then ask for seared fresh scollops.
(Or, you may alternatively order loads of really delicious veggie or vegan food)

7.Accentuate how much more your converted ski chums will benefit the ski experience even more, by doing certain tried and tested ski specific excercises.
(practical displays of these are optional)

8. Announce to the entire pub/bar/restaurant/friends' house how absolutely essential it is, for all of them to try skiing at the earliest opportunity.

9. Go and watch "Speed Racer" in the cinema right now (in an IMAX if you can)-
It's the closest cinematic experience I'd had to skiing.

10. And above all,

Introduce them to j2ski.com

Buying own ski boots

I firmly believe that lunch should only be taken during "dead time" on the ski lift. Simple. Bring a packed lunch, eat on the lift, carry on skiing. OOh er missus.
Ok so forgive me for not providing a web link or exact details, but whilst watching an FIS slalom competition in January/ February 2008, one of the competitors, (I know not who) after crossing the finish line, did the exact same 360 routine, but with oodles more panache and obvious expertise, than illustrated person could hope for in 2.5 lifetimes.
Has anyone been to Wildcat

By a quirk of fate/fortune, I may be going to Wildcat in The States on April 5th.
Do you have any experience of going there. What should I expect temperature and snow wise, bearing in mind I've only skied in Europe.
Thank-you everyone for taking the the time to respond.

As skiiers, it is very important to share as much info as we can regarding the most important aspect of our beloved passion.

With regards to your comment Corona:-

"i'd also say, meercat, put it behind you and enjoy your news boots, gloves, hat, etc"

I have done just that and have now exchanged half the value of my boots for the above. The whole bad experience is now behind me, and I have moved on, butv it is my duty to share my non-partizan experience.

I cannot re-iterate the fact how crucial it is to make sure sure that you seek out a proper boot fitter, and to tell every-one you know, who does not want to waste time and money on incorrectly "fitted" boots

DO NOT BUY SKI BOOTS FROM

FINCHES
25-29 PERRY VALE
FOREST HILL
LONDON
SE23 2NE

I made this mistake and have paid the the price.

This is my opinion through my personal experience.

I am not being malicious in any way, but the fact is they do not know how to fit boots.

Dear All

Many apologies to all if I incorrectly encouraged any form of the p word.

Admin is right that we need to fair and only encourage genuine good service. However we must be on our guard and highlight genuine bad service.

Is this a fair analysis/statement ?

Hey Bandit

Pimp away man, that's what this site is all about.

I'm especially glad to hear some feedback of someone with 1st hand knowledge, as I was beginning to think I was being a bit of a bore.

In fact all my now former friends have told me just that !

Dear Scoousefly

If you do decide to take the sensible advice of the above suggestions, and buy a pair of boots, please read my entry on "Massive boot problems - a cautionary tale"
to read my experience.

I may also point out that my expert Chamonix boot fitter recommended only 3 places in the UK for boot fitting.I don't have the details but of the only ones he suggested, one is in Leamington Spa, the second is in Bicester and the third is in Scotland.

If you want to know more (and I must stress that I have absolutely no financial or business interest in any of these parties, merely a passion for us not to be ripped off or incorrectly fitted-I have paid the price and I want the rest of us to learn from my mistakes), then contact him directly and he may give you more details.

His name is Jules Mills. He works for his own independant boot fitting concern based in Chamonix within the premises of Sanglard Sports.
