After just spending a week in france working hard on my technique (picked up from this forum of course) I thought I was progressing reasonably well. I can handle most slopes and ski at a speed that I feel comfortable and in control. However towards the end of the week, some of the group told me that I was throwing my ski poles around like a mad man, much to their amusement! This led to think about how I position my poles while skiing. There is a lot of talk and discussion about the pole plant and when and how you do it. I don't recall much (if any) discussion about what to do with your poles the rest of the time.
What should you do with your poles after the plant and what position do you hold them in? or does it really matter as long as you don't poke someones eye out!! |

Hi,
I'm just back from a week in la clusaz and used the skiset link from this website. To be honest we were more than happy with the service and the price. The prices in-store were higher than the price we were quoted on the website. The staff were very friendly and helpful and encouraged us to come in anytime to swop skis so that we could try all the skis available to us. we were also invited to come in and get the skis waxed whenever we want. We will certainly be using them again. Hope this helps |

Thanks for the heads up graveteski. It looks liuke it is going to be a corker. I can hold my own on the slopes now, so I am looking forward to putting down some miles. I will look out for those orange salopettes. I'll be the one with the funny Northern Ireland accent. I don't think there will be too many of those around!
I know how you feel tony. When I get back from this trip I will have another month to wait until the next one. I have pre-warned my boss not to expect too much of me! Whrere are you going next? We are off to axamer lizum on the 8th March, but first thing first, roll on La Clusaz! |

Finally heading away on Tuesday to La Clusaz. You can spot me at the bottom of the chair lift at Balme at 08.59am screaming at the lift operator to turn the lifts on!
Hows the snow conditions at the moment? Anyone been out there recently? To say I am counting down the last few days at work is an under-statement! |

We did get a big dump of snow in NI there at the start of January, however it was the first time we have had a drop that big in a long time. I have found everything in NI is a lot milder, including the summer which is a bit depressing. Times are changing, but the big question remains... Is it cyclical or is man kind having an effect on the climate. I'm afraid i'm still out on that question, but whoever figures that out will be worth a fortune!

Do you know Graviteski if you can rent snowshoes cheap enough in la Clusaz? We don't intend on snow shoeing but the chalet we are staying in is a private one with a half mile walk to and from every day. If its heavy snow it will be a bit of a nightmare to walk in so it might be an idea to get some.
Thanks again for the contact for my friend but by the time he got round to it everyone seems to be full up. He has got somewhere in the end but its costing hima fortune! |

I work in an optician's and we do have certain occupational lenses for different sports. Generally they are to increase the contrast against certain colours. eg clay pigeon shooting, tennis, even golf. However I have never heard of anything for skiing, but then again I don't live in a ski area (unfortunatly!). I will look into it at work tomorrow just to see. One thing I do swear by is to have polarised lenses. They cost more but are far better than normal lenses to reduce glare and also to see the bumps in the snow!

I'am afraid that is true. There has been an argument over the percentage of fees paid to the croix fry area and they have decided to go their own way this year. I asked this question a few months ago when I heard and I received a more informative answer from a local. If you search for la clusaz in the chat search you will find the original thread. If you want to know which runs and lifts are affected the interactive map on the la clusaz home page has the runs and lifts removed from the map. http://external.skiinfo.com/skimap/mm2/EFRCLUSAZ.html. Just copy the link into explorer. It is still possible to use the runs but you can't use the lifts.
Hope this helps |
