Hi - thanks again for all the tips - luckily we are flying to Innsbruck so the journey doesn't seem so bad. 5 hours is a bit much!
I read somewhere that it's a bit out of the way for many people to bother with going there for the weekend which makes it's quieter - would anyone agree with that? H |

Hi - bet you can't wait to get out of that nasty heat! Where are you based?
I lived in the states for a while and used to ski in Killington on the occasional weekend. It was some time ago and I have to admit that I can't remember much other than the free buffalo wings and potatoe wedges during apres ski and the boxes of tissues in the lift queues. On a slightly more serious note, I thought it was a great ski area, lots of choice and the year I was there it wasn't that great for snow but it was still open later in the season due to it being so cold. However, that was about 15 years ago, with global warming and all that I might be talking a load of rubbish. Skiing in the states is very different to skiing in Europe, I personally prefer Europe for the mountains, but the states is a different experience. Sure there must be some experts on here. Anyone? |

Thanks for that, I have been studying various websites and have found out a fair bit, it's just nice to know what people think who have actually been.
I love little restaurants like that one, it sounds lovely, will definately be hunting that one down! We leave on the day you arrive - hope you have fun! H |

Hi, I was in Val D'Isere last winter, we went by snow train, if you can it's worth it for the extra 2 days of skiing. We arrived at the unearthly hour of 6.30am and were in resort by 7.30 at the latest and on the slopes by the time the lifts opened on the Saturday.
As for accommodation, there are a couple of Val websites that might help www.valdinet.com being one of them, and www.simplyvaldisere.com. Hope that helps! |

Hi, I'm off to Livigno for 2 weeks (woo hoo!) in early March, I am VERY excited, as I always am when my annual skiing trip approaches, has anyone got any hints and tips, places to eat, favourite mountain restaurants etc.
Oh, and is there an Italian version of tartiflete? (spelling, sorry). Thanks! |

I agree with Tony. I lived and worked in Mayrhofen for 2 seasons and thought it was ideal for everyone. The Penken is close to town and if she is learning she will be up the mountain with you rather than in the valley which some resorts have, you can go off for a blast whilst she has lessons and easily meet at lunchtime and then take her on some nice easy runs, still all up the hill.
On the other hand, if she hates skiing, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, trips to Salzburg and Innsbruck are common, there is a nice swimming pool, sauna, jaccuzzi etc in town. However, I'm sure she will love skiing - doesn't everyone? :?: |

According to a recent article in the Daily Mail Ski Mag we are paying less for holidays now than we were 10 years ago!
We are skiing in Livigno this year - £1500 for 2 people, 2 weeks half board. I think that's a bargain! |
