Self-Catering Recommendation
Started by User in Andorra, 3 Replies
Hi,

We are going to Andorra in January. I need to rent some self-catering accommodation and wondered if anyone has a recommendation.

We are driving and prefer to stay away from the slopes - up to about 30 mins from a ski station. In France I use Gites de France as they are always good. I wondered if there was a similar company in Andorra?

I've had a look around on the Internet, but everything seems expensive, compared other resorts. I thought Andorra was supposed to be on the cheap side?

Any help gratefully received.

Paul.
Hi,

La Bresse Hohneck ski station is currently closed and being rebuilt. Does anyone know if it will be open for the next ski season?
Carving Lessons in the UK

Hi,

I would like to have a lesson in carving with an instructor. I can carve already, but have a job linking turns.

I wonder if it is worthhwhile having a lesson in the UK in an indoor real snow slope (ie Milton Keynes or the imminent Hemel Hempstead)? My current carving experience tells me you need a fair bit of people-free space; I imagine a UK indoor slope to be impractical.

Any thoughts?
Ski Magazine

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent UK biased ski magazine? Most magazines seem to cater for both skiers and snowboarders. I did find one UK ski magazine, but it was a load of adverts with virtually no actual content.

Hi,

Does anyone know of any international or national (UK) ski standards/tests that allow ski students to measure and qualify their ability?

Thinking about other sports I have done - judo and ice skating - there are organisations that provide tests and trained people who are qualified to assess and grade students according to their ability. This provides a structured learning framework and sensible learning path.

Being new to skiing, I'm not sure any such organisations exist. I have had a look around on the Internet - but to no avail. Reading the books and having had a few lessons, there doesn't seem to be a consitent approach to teaching skiing. And maybe there shouldn't be one? However, personally, I would rather follow the gospel of some credible organisation, rather than someone who teaches what happens to work them.

Thanks - Paul.
Off-Season Skiing

Hi,

I wonder if anyone knows a website, or maybe a topic on this site, that lists which ski stations are open by month. I gather you can going skiing in summer in Europe, high up, but am not sure on what all the possible options are. I'm sure someone will have put together such a table.

Thanks.

Thanks - I'll try that. Presumably you'll need a 'fresh' pair every day?

No, I don't wear thermals. Is that a normal thing to do? Would you only wear them on cold days?
