We saw so many people stopped in dangerous positions trying to put snow chains on (we were returning from Vars). All I can say is thank goodness for winter tyres - worth their weight in gold!

We have winter tyres (live in France). We drove back home from the Alps on Saturday. There were very few cars with winter tyres - and not that many with chains either. Driving down the mountain was slow owing to the fact that people were completely unprepared - we saw one car in a ditch. Certainly not the last of the say. The snow continued until we were down to 400m (south of Sisteron). It was no wonder it was chaos. Most people cannot drive in the snow (we lived 4 years in southern Germany so are well versed on how to!).
We are thankful that we got home safely - and think the cost of the winters tyres was one of our best bargains. We wouldn,t do winter without them. |

We are in Vars (Alpes du Sud) and while there is less snow than previous years, all the major runs are open. The canons are on whenever possible. We have pretty much skiied where we would usually ski with perfect conditions - though it is icy in places but better than ADH this time last year. There is little snow on the slopes on the otherside of the town.
The good news is that it is quiet. By 3pm there are pretty much just the ski schools and the diehards (us) on the slopes. Longest queue has been less than 5 minutes. Snow is forecast this weekend - we will be gone but hopefully there will ve snow in the Pyrenees so we can sneak in some weekends there in the next few weeks! |

Whoops - hit the wrong keys - meant to say it is the worst station we have ever skiied at. Far better off in The Alps  |

We love Andorra - the ski area is fabulous. Here's hoping there is early snow this year as we are hoping for a quick weekend in mid December!
I totally agree about the Pyrenees being underrated! But I may be biased as we live only 90m away :) We never tire of skiing in Soldeu and have had some of our best powder days there! |
