I know we have all had one, that moment you catch an edge just as you go past a big group of people or ski past the cafe!
In my excitement at my looming ski trip,(she, as a non skier just doesnt understand my excitement and why im awake at this time, 5am of a morning checking webcams even though its too early!) i was telling my girlfriend about the time when in canada, skiing the goats eye run (very steep wide run) i caught an edge and fell. as it was under the lift everyone was watching, so i thought i could at least slide down with some grace, lifting my edges so not to catch, i must of slipped about a hundred yards and just as i reached the bottom, going quite slow by now, i literally put my edges down and stood with my momentum and skied slowly away to applause from the chairlift above! and one of my other more memorable ones, in canada again, skiing with the ski hosts, there was a professional nigel mansell lookalike(it was in the 90's afterall) in our group. Skiing our way through some gnarly snow at quite a speed he came straight across in front of me, in avoiding him i lost an edge and down i went, but sort of bounced back up off a hump and carried on as if nothing had happened. he was amazed at how i had managed such a manouvre. he thought i had done it intentionally!! who am i to spoil his day  As with all our stories when we recite them to others..."I suppose you had to be there" applies here too, but you guys must have some cracking "falling with grace" stories  |

I was concerned more with the weight issue.
The ski tech told me how important it was when buying them to have a ski to suit all aspects of my skiing. i remember having a choice of 2 xscreams as i was on the border of the choice for either ski. I dont want to find my extra weight making them do funny things on the turns at high speed  I skied a set of head last year, cant remember the model but they were in the top band of hire. liked them a lot :D I cant really warrant a new set of ski's, as much as i would like to as these have only seen 5 weeks use and they should still do the job if my weight is ok. I got a set of 2.10 salomon equipes in the garage from the nineties :) |

I bought my salomon xscreams in about 2002/3.
I know ski performance has improved quite a bit in the last 9 years but these were pretty amazing back then and i expect they will still be today. What concerns me though is in 2002 i was a lot lighter than i am now! 100kg, now 125kg The guy in the shop gave me the ski's to suit my build and experience back then(early advanced) but with my added "comfort" will they still be ok? I dont intend doing much except cruising the reds and blues. The writing on the ski's is r18 sc 106 68 96.....not too sure what that all means but hopefully will make sense to somebody. The bindings are salomon s8 10. thanks :) |

Definately lock them! I had a friend who had his taken from the locker room. not nice finding they are gone just as you are leaving for the slopes. Another guy had his taken while having a drink at the bottom of the mountain at the end of the day.
for the sake of a simple lock which will deter all but the most determind thief, it has to be worth it just for the peace of mind.....your ski's sound fantastic so i expect there will be some envious eye's admiring them......No brainer :) |

The smell of my chainsaw...
In preperation for the first downhill of the season in lakelouise, im in the woods cutting logs for our burner. phones off. fire lit. lots of snacks and settle down for a night of skiing. The girlfriend goes mad at me because as each of the skiers go past a paticular point on the course i say "thats where i almost killed myself!" Thats when my season starts, lots of memories at lakelouise :D |
