Yes, Tony unfortunately it is the one that gets mentioned 150 times a day!!
Said I would report back and here goes.
We were mixed party of nine aged 70 to 18 months! Very pleasantly surprised about the ski area, we are not the sort of skiers that get up early and ski until the last lift, but there were good runs for most abilities. Lovely long blue run at Svaty Petr with a quick 10 minute chair back up which kept most of us amused a fair bit. Ski school for the 4 year old was OK, but not a patch on what I have seen in Austria. Lift pass was about £115.00 for 6 days for the area pass. There is a good red run which has night ski-ing, this is extra. It was useful having Daughter in Law speaking the language for certain things (eg,my son and I both asked on separate occasions to book a table in a certain restaurant for NYEve but told to just turn up, but when my daughter in law asked they ushered us to a table immediately and it was apparent that tables had reservations on them!)However most people do speak english, and a lot speak German so you can get buy in one or the other. Funny things like piste map brochure not translated into English though. If you can make your way from airport into Prague there is a bus that costs £7.00 for the 3 hour trip to Spinderluv Myln. We got a taxi from the airport, don't think I am allowed to recommend but brilliant service so would if I could, booked on internet from here and turned up both ways £184.00 round trip. (2h15 mins each way)
Very much cheaper than Austria to eat in the village and on the mountains, particularly drinks, both alcoholic and soft. One thing to watch is very noisy disco in centre of the village goes on until 4.00am.
Lots of Germans, Russians and a surprising number of English in the resort, because we probably would not have thought to try this area if not for the family connection.
Hope this helps

Oh Yeah, didn't notice that ha ha! Will report back as not much on here about Czech Republic that I could see. We usually go to Austria and have been ski-ing for many years (we even met in that infamous resort beginning with N that dare not speak its name on here!) so it will be interesting to compare. Will post again in January.

sorry, only just seen your post but my daughter in law is Czech and we are all going ski-ing to Spindleruv Mlyn over New Year. She says this is the best resort (2 hours from Prague) although she does moan about it being more expensive each year as it gets more popular. Hope this helps

Yes, it was good. Snowed for 48 hours after we got there, then late on NYE it started raining which was a shame, but I know they have had lots since we left on 4th Jan.
Also my husband thinks the bus journey was only about 17 Euros each, so even better value!

Thanks for the advice. We literally walked out of the terminal, got on the bus, changed at Lofer where the next bus was already waiting (and had an english driver!)and all for 23 euro. Brilliant!

Thanks, Daved.
So from this reply, do I assume we have to change at Lofer to get the link to St Johann? Also, do you have a very rough idea how much it costs?

Hi
Does anyone have any advice for us as we would like to take a train from Salzburg to St Johann in Tirol. Also, would we need to get a taxi from the airport to the railway station or is there a bus shuttle service?
Many thanks for any help.
