I cant wait.....

Although I love(d) skiing, skied since I was 3 (that was 1970/71), there was a time not that long ago that I had written it off, figured I would probably never ski again. It is expensive and it had been years since I had skied last. But now my wife has graduated with her bachelors degree in education. We'll be able to afford to ski again. :D

With my decision this summer to get back into skiing, I am getting more and more anxious every day. I have got my clothes, got a great deal on some "Spyder" gear, pants and jacket, still need to get Skis. I am so excited to get back on the slopes I am beside myself. I had tried to not think about skiing, when I thought I would never ski again. It almost brings me to tears remembering all the great times I had skiing and thinking about being on the slopes again. I will also be teaching my son (15) and daughter (12).

I don't have a lot of friends that ski and that I can share this with and my family is getting tired of hearing about it, I just need to talk about it so I don't go crazy waiting.

Thanks,
Brad
Which Beer?

OK, the real authority is here, I can't believe no one has mentioned "Budweiser". If there is one thing us Americans know it's great beer.

Just kidding. I, on behalf of all enlightened, American beer drinkers, apologize for the crap that is "Budweiser" and so many other pathetic American beers.

However, in the last 5-10 years we have come around and enjoy very fine beers. My personal favorite at the moment is Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen also my Brother just turned me on to "Mirror Pond - Pale Ale". "Dicks Danger Ale" is also very good and brewed just down the street from me.

Hehe, you may recognise my signature then!

Yes I do, just watched that episode last week. Love that show. You can only see it on PBS (Public Broadcasting System) Thats the best/only channel for older British comedy such as Monty Python (yes we still watch that over here), Faulty Towers, and the like. While I am on the subject, one other show I loved and haven't seen in 20+ years was "The Young Ones" That was a funny show, to bad it only lasted 2 seasons.

About the Vindaloo, (just watched the "Chicken Vindaloo" altered DNA monster episode last night) I know it is a food, no I don't think you could get it over here if you tried, but I figure it has some satirical meaning over there that is a bit lost on us (at least me). Maybe it is a bit of a joke food like "spam" or something.

I thought maybe a bit of help for us "Queens English" challenged Americans over here

1st: I Googled "piste" found that means "Trail".

2nd: Wanderer said "I practically started a row on the forum last year" I don't know if "row" is a typo or means something like "riot". Over here "row" means "to row a boat" or "place objects in a row"

3rd: "Credit Crunch Caution - or Sod It I'm going skiing?" I would guess "sod it" means something like "screw it", but I am just guessing.

I watch enough Red Dwarf to know what "Git" and "Smeg Head" mean but I need a little help for some of the rest )

Nope, no pinheads here. That was before ski brakes were common or even invented.

I'm certain he said he was 41 in another post :?:

Anyway, dig those ski leashes, fancy being tied to your skis?

I am guessing I am about 10 in that picture, taken 30+ years ago.

Ya my dad had a brand new prototype Nikon that took those newfangled color pictures

The picture is from White Pass or Crystal Mt, probably WP. About the leashes, how else you gonna stop your ski when it comes off??? )

Hello, here to say hi. This is a picture of me and my brother about 30+ years ago. I was an avid skier and have decided to get back into it. Got the seasons pass and am in the process of getting all new equipment. Can't wait for next season.

Thanks,
Brad
Ski Helmets?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 93 Replies
I am just getting back into skiing, bought a seasons pass for White Pass. I skied a LOT from age 3 into my early twenties. The last time I skied was 2000, I am 41 now. I have never seen a ski helmet in person let alone anyone wearing one.

Along with my friends in my teens I skied the most extreme runs at most of the mountains around Washington State; Crystal Mt, Mt Bachelor, Sun Valley etc, we never wore or heard of "ski helmets".

People have been Skiing for 100's maybe even 1000's of years and all the sudden, in the last 5-10 years, you have to wear a helmet? I think helmets are overkill, probably pushed by helmet manufactures. Whats next, jogging or walking helmets?

Now I will admit if you are skiing on "rails" or anything like that where you could hit your head on solid metal, a helmet would be a good idea, but for "normal" or "regular" skiing I don't buy it.

Just my 2c,
Brad
