Ski Bindings - advice
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 5 Replies
Hi all,

Just completed my second season - began hesitantly on blue slopes in Saas-Fee in January and ended by skiing blacks and off-piste in Chamonix as late as last week (the advantages of living in Geneva!). But now I'm wondering whether I still have appropriate skis and I've noticed lots of incomprehensible technical talk about ski bindings on here. Can someone give me a quick and easy lowdown on what all those binding numbers etc mean and what I should be looking for? I thought all that was needed was weight information but apparently it has to do with skill level also? Also now that I'm a better skiing whether I should be thinking about getting a different type of ski? Currently have a pair of dynastar 8 which seem quite lightweight...

Thanks!

Hi Michelle, would you mind giving me the details of this hostel as I go to Chamonix quite often (l live in Geneva) and could do with a cheap place to stay occasionally.
Thanks!

Fantastic link, thanks! So, it seems to be basically the same as 'variable'...more or less...
spring snow?

Can anyone tell me what 'spring snow' means exactly when reported as the ski resort condition? How does it differ, for example, from powder, fresh, hard packed etc.

Cheers
Great advice, thanks both, will keep in mind snow conditions (which don't look like they're going to help my patience this weekend!). Been to Clusaz twice now and you're right, the blacks all seem very mogully,
hi all,

Keen to tackle my first black piste this weekend. Does anyone have any advice on where best to start in either La Clusaz or Les Gets? Not keen on massive moguls or anything super narrow, but steepness doesn't bother me.

Cheers all!

P.S. Apart from this amazing forum, where else can you find info about difficulty of black pistes other than doing them? I can probably guess my own answer to that

Yep. The fact that I couldn't do the exercise on my left leg at all, but was relatively easy on my right leg, was the eventual giveaway.
