Hi,
Any recommendations for thermal base layer, ie top and long johns. Preferably a turtle neck top, and preferably knee-length rather than ankle-length long johns. I did have some from Uniqlo which were cheap and great, except that I tumbled dried them by accident, which made them shrink. And Uniqlo no longer make knee-length long johns. I notice M&S do thermal underwear. Any good? I notice they don't do knee-length though. Ta. |

I attempted do answer the question, however I couldn't, as none of the answers corresponded to the reason I go off-piste, which is to ski in powder.

Hi,
I shall buy a helmet for this coming season. Any pointers as to what to look out for when choosing one? Anything to avoid? A place in London with a good selection at a fair price? My one concern is that I would want to be able to ensure that it didn't make my head too hot (or cold). I believe you can helmets that allow their heat insulating properties (or ventilation) to be changed to suit actual conditions. Thanks. |

Dear All,
I would appreciate the view of somebody medically trained. I would ask anyone not medically trained to not give their view please, to reduce the risk of anyone reading this thread from taking on bad advice. My question is whether someone with DVT and taking Warfarin should avoid skiing all together at all costs, or ski taking it easy and not pushing them self. Thanks. |

Hi,
I have a friend who just had some custom boot insoles made. The shop told him they should be replaced after three years. Does that sound right? I thought they would last longer than that. |

Bit of a random question - but are boot insoles made such that their width matches your feet or boot?
I ask this because I would like to get some insoles. I suspect that next time I get boots, I will get narrower boots. So - I wondered if I got insoles made now, whether they would fit narrower boots in the future. |

Hi,
I need to buy some new walking boots. I'd like to buy some which are good for walking (obviously) but also suitable for walking around a ski resort with snow. Any recommendations and/or things to consider when choosing a pair? Thanks. |

Hi,
On my boots, as with most boots, I have a powerstrap. I do use it, however, I'm not quite sure what it's purpose is. Can anyone help. My boots have four buckles, and I fasten the two opposite my shin such that boot is a good fit, with just a little free space. When I flex my ankle, the pressure against my shin feels even and comfortable. If I fasten it overly-tight, it makes the buckles slightly loose and when I flex my ankle, there is more pressure on my shin opposite the powerstrap - and hence is uncomfortable. If I fasten it loosely, then I don't believe it serves any purpose at all. If I fasten it to make a good fit around the boot, without over-fastening it, it feels comfortable, but feels no different to when I'm not using it all. Hence, I can't see the point of it. Any insight? |
