Prove me wrong?

Thanks all, that certainly got a good response - its a bit like the Marmite question!

I think Le Grand B, Clusaz and Serre Chevalier sound worth a look. Plenty of boxed pressed and buttons ticked! I forgot to mention that we have to go in school hols so anywhere that gets too crowded is to be avoided.

In the meantime, we're off to Wengen on Saturday - can't wait.

Prove me wrong?

Hello,

My wife is French (we live in England) and we've skiied for the last 10 years in Austria, Italy and Switzerland. However, Mrs JohnSki's national tendencies are taking over and she's talking about skiing in France again!

My response has been, too crowded, too many rude French/embarassing English, overdeveloped, overpriced, bad food etc etc.

Can somebody recommend a French resort that will prove me wrong?

To give some context, we've really enjoyed Champoluc/Monta Rosa over the last couple of years. Attractive 'real' village, charming locals, 200km of empty pistes and nice lunch with a beer for about 10 Euros. Small villages in Zillertal Arena have been similar.

Can France compete???

Thanks
Wengen ski schools

I've booked a week in Wengen during the Christmas holidays and my wife and I are considering private lessons.

We are both 'advanced' on piste, pretty much able to ski all pistes quickly, confidently and occasionally quite cool-ly - off piste is a different matter!!

Can anybody recommend any ski schools operating in Wengen with a focus on (affordable) private lessons or maybe a small group to learn how to get off piste and enjoy some of the fluffy stuff??

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon! Its that time again and I'm looking at New Year in Wengen.

Can anyone offer any advice or opinions on 3* hotels in the village. Ideally not too far from the cable car / station, with Alpine charm and good food!

Thanks

John
Where to go end-March

Just throw in my thoughts here.

Firstly, there's more to the Zilly Valley than Mayrhofen - look at a piste map and 'google' one of the villages that doesn't appear in an English ski brochure - its quite easy to find a nice hotel that will probably have no other Brits in it at all! We stayed in a great little hotel in Hochkrimml at about 1500m, almost ski in / ski out and linked to the Zillertal Arena. On the downside there is not much skiing above 2500m, but this year that shouldn't be a problem given the depth of snow.

Austria compared to France? No comparison! Better accomodation, BETTER FOOD (!), less crowds, miles better mountain restaurants, overall ambience, on-piste and lift manners etc. etc.

All just my opinion of course!
Help with my shortlist

Tony, my wife, daughter and I have skiied at Champoluc 3 times - last Christmas and previously a couple of long weekends in late March. We rate it very highly indeed:-
- miles of fast cruising over 3 valleys on seemingly empty pistes
- good altitude for late season snow
- spectacular scenery
- friendly laid back Italian style
- reasonable prices

On the downside, its a quiet village and there's only one piste back down to the bottom which can get busy and worn and its a proper red - neither of which bothers us.

We travelled with "ski2" who we found quite simply superb, they do everything for you!

Hope this is helpful.
