Sestriere lifts

Was this a quiz?

If the Sestriere restaurants were not to your liking you could get the link across to Sauze/Sansicario (which I think has been upgraded) where there are some excellent on-mountain restaurants. (Certainly had the best polenta I've ever tasted)
La Plagne & Les Arcs are well linked & well signposted so you won't have to look to hard at your piste map to hop between the two.

Just make sure your pass covers both resorts - some are full passes, some are what they called explorer passes where you get 1 day in the other resort and some are local only.
Cheap flights

Delayed booking my flights with Air Berlin by just a few days & in the mean time they clearly twigged it was half term & the Saturday flights had climbed from sub £100 each way to £300+.

Reverted to Ryan air - I know I hate them but I am a cheapskate!
For a family holiday I'd be wary of leaving it to the last minute - the bargains were not there last year in the way they have in the past.

I'd reccomend Sauze -lots of skiing for a range of abilities & links well to Sestriere, Sansicario & even Montegenevre on the French side (I think the pass only covers you for 1 day in Monte')
It's one of those resorts where you get the choice of the runs you want - there's often a blue red or black between A&B - you just pick the one you want.
any one out there knows ?

That narrows it down to the French Alps!
Is factor 20 enough?

A good factor 15 stops 98% of UV - so factors above that are probably more about marketing than a significant change in protection.

The key thing to bear in mind is to put enough on frequently enough. Even the sports creams get washed off to an extent when you sweat.
skiing as a couple

France seems hellishly expensive & the Portes Dul Soleil particularly so I'd be tempted to avoid Morzine/Avoriaz if there are just two of you.

A

Is the idea of a perfect ski technique compared with snowboarding more a reflection on snowboarding being relatively new & skiing much older and consequently thought about, written about & arguably over cerebralised.

Which is right - emphasis on technique & lessons or the JFDI approach of snowboarding? I don't know - I've never snowboarded although I did skateboard back in the 70's and snowboarding did strike me as more intuitive. The absence of poles for the flat bits swung it for me.
