Easiest Trip To Good Skiing From Brussels?
Started by User in France, 2 Replies
I'm working in Brussels in January and am looking for suggestions on a ski weekend. Of course, want to do it cheaply so does anyone have a suggestion on where to go for a weekend? I'm staying close to the Brussels airport, so car hire is easy for me, also train or flights.

Well I made it to Andorra last night via Novatel bus from Barcelona, stayed at Roc St Miquel in Soldeu and had a nice sunny day to explore Grandvalira. I just wanted to thank you all for the advice!

Too bad there is not more snow so that the off-pieste would be an option, but a beautiful sunny day with no crowds is not all bad!

If any of you are visiting the States and need some advice about Utah (my favorite) or Colorado skiing, give me a PM.

Thanks for all of the help! Since I really want to ski Grandvalira, I think that I will make my way to Soldeu and possibly stay at the Hotel Roc de Sant Miquel - it looks like a good place at a good price and they have openings next weekend.

To get there and back to Barcelona, it looks like the Novatel bus would get me to Andorra la Vella, then a taxi to Soldeu?

Any thoughts on this plan? (and by the way, my Spanish skills are very dependant on Google Translate!)

Now that I've seen the youtube video I am so ready.

Thanks again!

I would really appreciate some advice on Andorra. In January, I will be working in Barcelona and want to get in a ski weekend. First time in Barcelona, so I don't know my way around.

I prefer steep runs, bowls and off-pieste (I know Andorra is more intermediate than expert), and will be traveling solo, and on a tight budget. Can anyone give me advice on the following:

1)What is the easiest/cheapest way to get to Androrra? Should I rent a car or take a bus / shuttle?

2)Which ski areas should I be looking at? Which ones should I stay away from?

3)Which hotels or B&Bs would be a good choice for access to these ski areas?

4)Best place to rent skis and boots?

Any other advice would be very welcome, thanks!
If budget is truly not an issue, I would seriously consider Snowmass. It will cost more that Keystone or Breck, but if you can afford to stay "slope-side" you will have a fanstastic time!

Snowmass tends to be less crowded because it is too far from Denver for a day trip. They have excellent programs for the kids, and endless easy runs to learn on.
How would you do it?

This will be my first time in Zermatt. Assume that you have a guest for the weekend and you want him to experience as much of the skiing there as possible, given just one Saturday and one Sunday.

All of my skiing (except for a couple of days at the top of Les Montets in early season last year) has been in the US and Canada - so the European experience is what I am looking for. For my ski level, I can ski any piste, and most off-pistes (but no climbing or hiking please!). I have never skiied into a village for lunch, for example.

I am staying at Hotel Perren, and plan on hiring equipement from Flexrent (thanks to SwingBeep's advice)

So how would you do it?

Thanks SwingBeep! I really like the idea of their "Depot", allowing you to leave the skis and boots near the ski area - good idea for old bones!

Heading to Zermatt for the first time, for a weekend on the 20th - anyone have advice on best places to rent gear? We are staying at the Hotel Perren, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!
