Ben76, you are right, legs together is less stable. You should be paidextra to ski like that.

I was a war baby, and can assure you that mince was a luxory.

By my count, there are at least twelve J2-ers in Niederau at this time, including me. Trouble is - how will you know if the guy/gal sat across from you in the gondola is a J2-er?

Apart from me, red anorak, legs together, "DAVE MAC" on ski hat, gluhwein, Zipfer, coffee, paint brush or guitar in right hand.
Private ski tuition?

Since I no longer live in Niederau, I can be a little more open than Jan, C,mon you reds!

My daughter-in-law made superb progress after having a one hour lesson with the R.. school.

However, there are other considerations. When you have had your one hour lesson, what are you going to do then? There are a number of advantages to group lessons, providing that the group is right for you.

If you can state that your emphasis is on a fast running group, you get the lesson, practice and feedback. You also get to ski a lot with and behind fast skiers.

You will meet other skiers of a similar ability, and gain an opportunity to ski with them outside of ski school hours.

I am not too sure if Jan is right about the dates, given that Fasching falls early this year. But he is correct that the office is well organised, and does have wide resources to call upon.

Tried to add an image, picture of the mountain, but failed

Will look out for you!

Wow, I'm getting quite nervous about this. My wife has expressed a clear preference for medium softness, whereas I prefer long and hard.

woodworm,

If you havn't taken up drinking yet, you have a nice surprise awaiting you. Try Zipfer, in the Bichlwirt.

Remember Niederau has the north facing slopes, and together with the good run cuts through the trees, is worth 700/800 metres on other resorts, (I maintain that Niederau outpunches its weight, well height really!)

As long as Niederau retains some base, you will get good skiing. I have enough confidence to have booked my return flight 2 days after the season end on 6 April.

Apart from last year, and 1971, my winters there have been good ~ I did miss a couple of years when in the Antipodes, and a few when the kids were growing up.

Ski well.

Off Piste Insurance??????

It is bad mountaineering to ski alone off piste.

It can be bad for your health to ski in the trees in BC Canada, (called "Noodling"). Bears hibernate in snow holes at the base of trees.

My ski buddy Mel & I have an agreement that if either of us comes a cropper OP, but close to the piste, the other will drag him back on to the piste, prior to calling in the Alpingers. In the event, if it involves concussion, thats OK, if involves breakage, I'll kill him.

I suspect I have broken the terms of insurance every year for the past thirty seven years

Jan,

Setting off on Thursday to Niederau, knees open on the journey, cos that's the only way you can fit into an easyjet seat! That will all change on Friday when I buy my season pass, and then close my legs.

I learned to ski when Franz Jochum was the head instructor, and he's not a bad skier eh?

Hey, it isn't life and death, it's a sport. I want to ski fast, legs together, and avoid falling. When it's icy, I open up. Sometimes, do open knees on the piste, just for the hell of it. Sometimes ski on one ski, sometimes backwards, (never intentionally though)

It's only a game, get a life. Is Christiano Ronaldo more or less stylish than George best? It doesn't matter.

Jan, for all this wisdom, you owe me one Zipfer marzen!

bandit, couldn't be sure, probably about 70/80 weeks over about 15 or so years. The shell is still rigid.

Have lost a couple of boots prior to that due to brittle failure.

Have another 6 weeks to do this season.
